330d xDrive Touring ordered

I've been lurking and learning for a while (thanks everyone!), but only found the forum after I'd placed my order.

Fortunately, I don't think I've made any howlers with the spec choices though...

330d xDrive MSport Touring
Mineral grey
Black dakota leather
Adaptive suspension
Visibility Pack
Professional navigation
Memory, heated seats
Heated wheel
Folding, dimming mirrors
Comfort Access Pack
Harman Kardon sound system
Surround camera
Head Up Display
Towbar

I'd debated the 19" wheels, but have to travel along a very badly potholed road that ruined at least 2 of the 20" wheels on previous car, so decided against more very low profile tyres and stuck with 18". It's handy that I also like the look of them!

I'm coming from a 271 bhp Jaguar XF and wanted to downsize a little, and on the test drive I was much more impressed by the 330d than I'd expected to be. It's quicker, the engine/gearbox combo is far, far smoother, the handling much sharper (probably not difficult given it weighs about 20% less!), there was an option of four wheel drive (I was a long time quattro driver prior to the Jag) and finally the fuel economy swung it. 42mpg versus 56mpg "official" will, if my usual experience is anything to go by, become 32mpg versus 43mpg. It should also be an awful lot easier to park!

I've been told the originally quoted delivery date of 16th April is now "early May" (as have others I notice) so only a loooooooong month to go!

Great spec there! I'm jealous of some of the options you will have, Xdrive, HUD

Just ignore F30AM when he says you should have gone for the VSS steering and, you don't need it.

Wow looks fully loaded. The only thing I'd question there is whether you need x drive or not - plenty of threads on awd & winter tyres for you to have already considered your opinion on that one.

What date did you place your order on?

Thanks. Yes, I did think about VSS but the salesman actually said it wasn't worth it.

I must admit xDrive is a bit of a luxury and probably not wholly essential, but I am intending to put winter tyres on too ... my 26 mile drive to work is mainly lanes and B roads, so it was a belt & braces approach!

The order was placed on 23rd February, so will be about 10 weeks from order to delivery if early May is right. It's a customer order (rather than Lease Company) so I've been told that might keep it up the pecking order ... maybe!

Cool. My 'order' was about 2 weeks after yours (non x drive). So maybe I should expect a mid may timeline, which isn't too bad. But then I'm a leaser, so could that throw me down the pecking order. Will call them next week to find out.

tbh if it's gonna be june before I get a car, I might just cancel and put the 330d m sport dream on hold for a couple of years...

Yeah, I'm certainly hoping it doesn't slip any further as I'm without a car of my own at the moment!

I sold the Jag back to the garage when it needed two new rear tyres (10k miles and one was illegal ) and the rear pads replacing - decided it was not worth spending over £1000 on a car that was about to finish it's PCP.

So I've been driving around in a hired Seat Leon or my wife's car (also a Seat Leon!) since mid-February... soooo looking forward to having some power under my right foot again!!

Have you gone for the manual gearbox? Sport 8AT is probably the best option i ticked!

Loving the sound of the rest of the spec though, great car and engine.

Ah, right. 330d sounds great. If I can afford to stick with a 3-series next time i'm already eyeing up a 330d or maybe a 328i if they xDrive that bad boy up too!

Yes, it's included as the 330d only comes with the 8 speed sport gearbox although I'm sure there are really keen drivers put off by this ... wonder why a manual is not even an option? (Anyway, phew, not something I've missed! )

Funny though, when I gave the salesman my spec list, I'd used a leasing site to get a target price and they include the sat nav options as part of model spec, so it wasn't listed on the things I wanted added. He casually said "have you thought about sat nav?". Very nearly a disasterous spec mistake there!

I too am now having to drive a rental, a Ford Fiesta. As my car a Honda Accord Tourer has conked out and it isn't worth spending loads of money on it just to have to get rid of it in 6 weeks time.

So I've had to go down to a dead basic car from a fully loaded Honda. I will certainly really appreciate my new car when it comes, that's for sure.

I think I would be asking my dealer for a courtesy car, you have a good case given you are spending a load of cash and also this is an unforeseen development. They can only say no!!

I'd already sold my other car when I ordered this so I don't think they would feel the need to do that and I haven't asked. Besides, the rental car is costing less per month than the new one will!!

Needless to say, great spec very jealous.

No speed limit display to get the most from the HUD?

Also do the surround cameras stay clean enough to be useful? I thought I read that they were a pain to keep clean.

That's a beast of a spec, great colour choice too. Will you be swapping out the front grill for the all black variety?

No, originally specified the Speed Limit Display, but swapped it for the Surround View Camera ... it was one or t'other as the budget was creaking by this point!

I had a reverse camera on my previous car and it just needed an occasional wipe which I can live with, so hoping these will be more of the same. After sampling surround view in a friend's Discovery, I really fancied it!

Nope - I much prefer the contrast of the shiny surround with the grey paint than going all black ... hmm, maybe I'm just getting old?

Wasn't sure about it and, as someone else on here mentioned, the BMW literature isn't overly forthcoming about the advantages of certain spec features, and the salesman said not to bother. Ah well, something to obsess / worry / lay awake at night about until delivery!!

So that's what happened to NISFAN's car. How utterly careless of them. Poor chap must have been gutted.
