posting a picture of home made side skirt. May just remove and put on real BMW part, only because everything else on the car looks so "perfect." But I wanted a bit more extension than the factory ones ive seen. Anyway here's how it came out. I like it. Not perfectly straight, but looks good to my eye. Had trouble getting a picture that actually shows it due to shadows - this is grainy but shows the skirt. let me know what you think

I agree. The M performance side blades need to stick out further than it does. I was thinking the same thing you were but not going to make my own lol
p.s. also from the lower angle some parts look warped....

you are right. the lip is very flexible and it doesn't easily make a perfectly straight edge. It is better now but not perfect. My tolerance for it is ok now but I think I'll junk it and get the real thing at some point. Still liking it enough now tho |

Would love an opinion here. I just built a similar alpine white 340xi and I did get the body color side blades. I also have the side sill decals in black, black kidney grill and carbon fiber spoiler. My question - Is it necessary from an aesthetic standpoint to purchase the splitter and diffuser as well along with the blades to create a uniform look? Just don't want the side blades to look like they are missing something. Thanks...

Thanks for the response. So would the blades alone not run an even line of sight with the stock front air dam? Or would it?
Thanks much Last edited by HappyHour; 05-13-2017 at 12:19 PM.. |

look closely at the bottom pic and you'll see that the right side exhaust pipe is about 2 inches lower than the left. Very noticeable when you look at the muffler that says M Performance on it. Right side is definitely more visible. So I got under there and found that the nut which holds the anchoring fixture to the body (and from which the rubber gasket hangs that hooks the actual exhaust) was loose and halfway unscrewed. Took a 12 mm socket and ratchet extension and screwed it tight. Also checked the other side which was tight.. Didnt have any loctite to use, but will do so if happens again. A little disconcerting I have to say. This is a port installed MPPSK exhaust. wondering if this has happened to anyone else here. Maybe will ask in the general forum. Anyway its back where it should be - I wonder whether it vibrates that nut loose from all the burbling in Sport mode? It does burble and I like hearing it so I do plenty of over run and engine braking just to hear it.

Was very easy thankfully. In other news that orange license plate will be replaced in short order. Got a nice white vanity plate coming. Will post when I get it.

the white front splitter is going to be replaced by a black splitter in a week or two. the current oneis cracked and held in place by white duct tape ala mcGyver. actually not very noticeable - but it is cracked. ordered an ebay replacement in flat black which is what I wanted originally so - thats happening soon

what was the culprit - a parking curb, just a hard drop or slope? didn't think it'd be so easy to crack the OEM material like that. what the impact quite hard?
i'll stay tuned to see how the black looks, thanks for sharing! |
