as far as F30 is concerned, are you guys sure it's Imperial Blue Xirallic?

because on the BMW NA website, it shows Imperial Blue Metallic?

How do we know for sure... (without asking the CA) ?
Yes, BMW USA usually leaves out the "Xirallic" or "Brilliant effect" part in their brochures
Its the exact same color

Hey, if you don't like the price, an afternoon with a brillo pad should do the trick.

It's not the price, it sounds like the paint process is the same, just wondering why its a 4k difference, unless the special clear coat is really expensive

Metallic paint has a small amount of tiny metallic flakes in the paint that reflect sunlight.

Xirallics are special flakes that reflect a lot more light than flat metallic particles, so the paint has a much more "sparkly" or "Glittery" effect

Because 1 the paint line has to be stopped and the clearcoat changed and 2 the car goes through the whole Individual process and 3 its more expensive paint.

And one usually also has to get the whole Individual package (wheels, Interior, paint) in the early life of a new 3 Series model.

Later on one can get the paint alone, like on the E90 LCI for around $800

For the UK yes, and both say Xirallic so I assume the same is true for the US market.

Yes.
You can see they both have the same paint code A89, meaning its the exact same paint formula.

Just brought home the Glacier Silver and I love the color. Of course I'm still trying to figure out just how it's different from Titanium Silver. My untrained eye seems to think that there might be just a bit more blue in the Glacier but I'm not sure.

I am about to order mine in Mineral Grey. Think this is the best colo(u)r in combination with the 18" 397's and the Sports Line edition... must say, looking at the picture in the previous post that Glacier Silver is also very nice...

I think where your thinking goes off the rails is in assuming that prices are based only on cost. BMW charges what it thinks people will pay.

This quote is exactly right. Doing a matte finish is actually infinitely easier to do than a high gloss. There is no color sanding and polishing involved. So it's all about what the consumer would pay. 10 years ago, I don't think anyone woulda paid extra for a matte finish. But it's gangsta now. And gangsta is a cash cow.

Seriously though, since all of the painting is done by machine, I think, perhaps, the hardest thing about those special colors is that they have to switch the production line to shoot the custom color. That's probably where most of the cost hike comes from.

This is all speculation of course. Except the gangsta part.

Bring back the Deep Green Metallic! This color combo with saddle interior is so classy.

But am I a little biased with my E92....
