The rear view camera is like having 2 monitors on your computer... Once you have them, you will never go back. And really miss them when you don't have them...

I agree completely. Our X3 has the surround view and the GT just has the regular, but I am a fan of both. Like one of the previous posts said, I have parked big cars and trucks many times without assistance from a camera, but, if the technology exists to not have to, why not use it? On a car like the GT, the tail is deceptively hard to see, so the $900 spent on the camera is worth it many times over (although, I am still irritated that a camera is not standard on a $45k+ car and especially so that it's not part of the tech package.)

I need the added storage for my next car so it might come down between these two cars. Any insight you all have would be great.
We looked at both and my wife chose the 328xiGT (Sportline, Alpine White/Coral Red). I have been driving it around this week and like it much more than I thought I would. It is very comfortable, HUGE back seat which was important for us (even if putting my son in rear-facing car seat is a bit difficult due to seat back being further back from opening of door that I would like), and easy access rear hatch area. My only practical gripe I've found , aside from cars seat issue mentioned above, would be that I would have liked to have seen the rear hatch door not extend past the rear bumper while swinging open (not a problem on the f30 sedan for instance). I'm paranoid that it will be opened (intentional or accidental) in the garage and because it swings out and up a bit it may hit the garage door and do some damage. I realize ANY SUV will share this issue but the GT is much more a Sedan than and SUV and thus my commment. Minor thing but its there nonetheless. Its an awesome car.

Its not really to address driving skill, my comments are only based on my experience with the GT - FYI Never had a car with a rear view cam and my GT doesn't have it either...

It is still a car and I can still park it without a cam BUT the car is taller/longer, the rear window makes it harder to look back and lets not forget the GT doesn't have a rear wiper.... sooo you WILL find places/times where you cant see back there and stuff that the sensors fail to detect.

In my opinion, this is an option worth having in the GT.

THe chuckle on this is that a similar scenario works with my wife's Mini-Cooper Clubman (with the seats down) --which is also a BMW product~ Funny thing is that the same stuff won't fit in my son's Lexus SUV.

Wow, 8 folding tables? Very impressive!

Yeah I've used the camera on other cars, and it's definitely a nice feature to have.
