Not true. Paint is already cured from the factory. No need to wait.

Noone is going to be as careful as yourself. That's why I don't let the dealer wash/wax the car.

LOL, the 3-4 weeks on the high seas probably gives the cars a sea salt brine cure.

Mine had swirls and a hairline scratch into them.

Took it back to get a heavy coat of wax, but the swirls remain
You will probably need a light polish to removethe swirls

If I were u I would simply tell them to deliver the car with all the hood, roof, and trunk panel stickers in tact. Then go home and peel them off yourself. There will be zero scratches.

I rejected a delivery once because the ca didn't follow the instructions. He knew I'd cancel if the stickers were removed. So I ordered a new one and this time it came with all plastic stickers tape and everything, just as it left the factory floor.

Insist on this if you are anal about fine scratches, especially on EB

See, sometimes when they are not careful about pulling these panel stickers off, or if the person doing it has long nails, they will scratch the paint at the edges of the sticker trying to get it to lift. Most people wouldn't notice though

i was under the impression that the VDC washes the car anyhow before its ever delivered to the dealer so they can inspect for damage. so aren't all cars washed regardless?

If the car is a daily driver, it is eventually going to have some damage. I tried to avoid all hazards when I got may car almost 1 yr ago already... Fast forward 1 yr and someone hit my rear bumper, small chips in windshield, and a door ding...

The dealer did prep my car, and do scratches whatsoever...

Yep. There automated car washes at the ports and every car gets run thru them after getting off the ship.

Couple of pictures taken several years ago at the Oxnard VDC. The cars had a coating of wax for shipping and at the VDC, these cars went through a hot water bath and then dried with blasts of air. In the pictures, when a car went through, the doors would come down during it's bath (privacy issues??!!!) We didn't see any hand towels being used, cars were driven straight to the prep center.

Wax doesn't correct anything, it's a protectant.

Will a good detail just help prevent from paint/trim scratching or does it help keep the car generally clean?

depends whats included in the detail. if you already have scratches you will need some kind of orbital polish to remove scratches and then use a paint sealant to protect the paint. no detail "prevents" scratching - it protects your paint.

Thumbs up

IMO if you can't TRUST your dealer to detail your car before delivery find another dealer.
cheers
