I have a 440ix GC. At 12k I got the low coolant level warning. 0.15 gal was missing in the expansion tank. No leak, all is dry. Still have the impression the water level is not stable. BMW dealer could not find anything, BMW recommended to replace turbocharger (under warranty). Someone had the same kind of problem?

BMW HQ (not the dealer) advised few issues with low coolant water are known on the B58. Without evidence of leaking they recommend to replace turbocharger. Keep you posted. Anyway I don't feel safe replacing a turbo on a new car. Even there are zero cost for me... |

Had my first low coolant issue at around 42,000 km a couple months ago. Went to the dealer and they told me it's normal but couldn't explain to me why water would evapourate in a closed cooling system when I asked.
One thing I noticed was the service manager had a tough time opening the coolant reservoir tank cap. Once he got it open with some force, there was a lot of white crusty residue on the threads of the reservoir opening. This leads me to believe techs may have topped up my coolant during my 2 services I've had already and did not use distilled water in the mix which annoys the hell out of me... Either way, I'm still baffled as to why coolant is evapourating in a closed system.

I think there's another post somewhere about a turbo being replaced. I had a service bulletin regarding the DME connector, which they found there to be no problem, but not the turbo. Now I'm worried lol.

Change the turbos.
If dealer is offering, take it. With lower miles best have it changed and written up. Any case down the road will have a paper trail. Drive that loaner. If the issue comes back again - Back 2 the dealer - eventually if problem doesn’t get fixed . Lemon. |

Dealer also said it's a known issue on B58 2016 production. I check in 2000 miles if level still at max... Hopefully yes. |

2016 340i update
Just hit 20k 14 months
Got a total of 6 Drive trains malfunctions through out the year , shut down re start fixes the problem Crappy Dealer can not find nothing wrong. No error codes. Other than that love the car. No other problems to report. |

Just picked up my new X3 M40i today with 12 miles on the odometer.
Drove the car home and then for a 35-40 mile breakin spin. Some time along the trip I noticed the tiny yellow "engine outline" light lit between the speedo and tac. Light is for "emissions". There are NO iDrive messages. Ill swing by the dealers tomorrow |

One failed coil pack which 2 weeks to fix since BMW sent the replacement part for Germany. Apparently they were VERY interested in this malfunction since I had only 6k on the car at the time. Besides that, the JB4 I just added has seemed to fix the disparity in performance due to varying environmental conditions.

34K Miles 440i F32 M sport package
Dinan Tune, ER Catless downpipe, AWE Tuning Midpipe, BMS Intake, Muffler Delete, Dinan springs and bumpstops, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires No issues what so ever. Its also been modified since 8K miles and didnt give it the best of break ins. Had coolant twice both a week or 2 after i went on a rally. I just top it off. But im about to do a full coolant change with the proper mix. Only thing is my turbo glows red after hard canyon runs that keep me in 1-3 the whole time. But that im not too worried about. Love the car and its a blast to drive even and the sound with an open exhaust is intoxicating. |
