Mines due to get looked at early next month, fingers crossed it gets sorted... what intrigues me though is how it a fault on some F30's but not all, yet even replacing the Steering Rack hasnt been fixing the issues for all cases. Makes me think its not just steering related and possible suspension ??? blt you have VSS dont you? whereas I don't.

Yup mine does, I have had a spare few hours today, so I went for a cruise around and I am almost certain my issue is front drivers side suspension or absorber issue.. doesnt seem to be steering related. Couple of weeks until it will be the dealerships issue (they seem to think they can rectify it simply and they haven't even site it yet) wouldn't surprise me if the transit blocks were still left in..... time will tell.

Yeah but the weird thing about my issue is I can go over top of the roughest bump on train track and nothing. I then can roll over a small bump or even a speed hump in a bunnings car park and get the thud.

I think my car has this issue as well... It does make some thud sounds on the front right suspension/steering... I'd be keen to know if anyone has this resolved
and for the record I do have VSS

Noise from steering

Hello Matt,

I came to have look on the forum to see if other people were having a problem and it appears they are!.
Took my car to the dealership due to the knocking creaking coming from the steering when I go over bumps at low speed.Iv'e done 2400 miles and I guess i'm lucky that have identified the problem and said I need a new steering rack, this first though needs to be authorised by BMW,this was 2 wks ago.
Its appears then, by all accounts that their is a design fault with the rack !.

Hi Steve, thanks for your email. I too had my BMW in at the dealership for four days last week, to be told on pick up that the problem was fixed and all they had to do was re-torque the front suspension. Needless to say I left the dealership and headed off on the 600k trip home to find that infact the noise was still there and somewhat more obvious than before I took it in.
I have heard that it is steering rack related, however I have also been told by people in Australia experiencing the same issue that have had their steering rack replaced, still hasn't fixed the issue. Crossing my fingers for you though. Keep me updated on the results.
Cheers, Matt

WTF? a 600k trip just to have the problem present itself. Get them to do a full inspection and re-torque every damn thing under the bonnet and the car if this is their approach.

Add me to the list guys,

I've had my 328i in 7 times for this problem alone. They have replaced the steering rack and another 'strut', still the noise remains...

Um this may be a silly question but have u guys tried re adjusting the steering wheel position if it makes a difference?

Thats one of the first things i did when i got mine, i've go it positioned lowered and pretty out front towards the drivers seat.

Its more under carriage noises than interior, you can clearly hear that something is amiss.

Do u think there may be a bushing missing??? like literally as in one of the south african folks or machine missed or forgot to drop a bushing or a rubber gasket somewhere.

If i was a betting man i would bet on that.

after having my car for 3 days and they still couldn't find the problem. bmw has sent out a regional manager to test drive my car on monday. looks like they wont be able to fix it. the engineer did mention that a few other cars they have in stock also have this problem. it will be interesting as to where this is going to end up. will report back next week.

Wow, u took them on a drive and were able to reproduce it but they were not able to subsequently. Go figure... just keep biling BMW AG. Thats the local strategy to make themselves important, paid, well resourced and existence justified.. BMW AG being raped.

What still intrigues me is why the problem cant be isolated? not all vehicles have the noise/issue, so surely they can work it back from there.. would be a different story if ALL F30's were showing the same issues.. but because they arnt, I am not going to stop jumping up and down... its a joke.

Why dont you be a dick, get them to loan u a loaners car and leave ur car there. Dont pay the bill, keep it for 3 months. 6 months whatever..Only pick it up only after it is fixed, do not hand back the loaner... force them to take u to court.
