Blank spot on cluster??

Anyone else annoyed with the blank space under the speedo? How about a digital speed readout like the HUD???

I also wondered about that. Had an X3 for loaner, I'm not sure but I think I saw MPG info showing up there but it may had a different speedo to the 4 series.

I agree - looks like it reserved for something, just not currently utilized.
A digital mph readout would be perfect!

I can't think of what to put there although I do agree that space looks empty.. The heads up display on the windshield takes care of the Speedo and navy. I think the m3 has a M logo in that space if I remember correctly

The digital speedo should be there when the HUD is off

I think you need to get the extended display to have anything there. If you have it, you get informational messages in that area.

Extended display goes to the right, under the tach, instead of just a small centered display.
It would be nice if it stretched across both gauges, but it doesnt.
Just get the regular stuff like CEL under the speedo, but nothing inside the bottom arc of it.

It could definitely use something there to complete the layout.

Perhaps...

I'll have a guess that the LCI will have the updated 6WA from the 5 Series and in the LCI X3.

Well least I'd hope so. Planning on trading my '13 for a LCI when it's available!

I got the "extended contents", nothing shows in that area. Looks like a switched off display to me.

I'll give that a try, but can't think of a reason why anyone wants to switch HUD off!

Nothing is displayed there...

And it was designed that way as you can see in this image clearly (thru the backlight outline) as Alan mentioned earlier.

Apparently the LCI will have the time displayed in that space.

On mine, when I start the car, it shows miles/time until maintenance in that area and when I put it in Sport+ it displays the traction control message. I'm sure it also shows other messages in that area. But the messages only display for a few seconds.

Are we talking about the same spot?

Oops! No, I'm talking about under the tachometer. I have nothing at the bottom of the speedometer.

My guess is that it's designed to keep the two sides symmetrical. Certainly looks like it's missing something though.

I wonder if you can code it to enable something there.

I don't think it is part of the display area, so you would need to etch the background like the other idiot lights. It doesn't currently seem to have any icons etched in it. Wonder if you could put something like a remote radar display behind it like they do with mirrors.

BMWNA website My BMW 4 series owner's videos, Vehicle Status, shows a display in that space but can't tell what it is.
