Glacier Silver M Sport X Drive in Alaska!
Finally picked up my new 328 X Drive M Sport yesterday from BMW of Anchorage. I absolutely love it! It took forever to arrive in Alaska, but was well worth the wait.
Options: M Sport Black leather w/ walnut Sport Auto Cold Weather Tech Premium Xenon M Sport Grill Snap in Adapter (media) I've put 180 miles on it in past 24 hours, and couldn't be happier. No steering vibration, and the fit and finish is just awesome. I'm still discovering all the functions and shortcuts with iDrive (thanks mostly to the great posts on this forum), but really love the iPod interface via the snap in adapter--much more intuitive and user friendly than the standard iDrive interface, although I wish the videos would fill the entire screen rather. As others have mentioned, however, you can't do split screen when using the snap in interface, which is probably a deal breaker for those who rely on Navigation. Love the HUD; seeing who is calling, changing radio stations and selecting different tracks from iPod/iPhone without having to take eyes of the road or look at the iDrive system is really slick. Comfort access is the surprise feature for me; I'm shocked how much I like not having to get fob out of my pocket to lock/unlock doors. That said, the automatic trunk opening trick is more miss than hit for me, and I can't get it to work consistently. But most of all: Performance! Wow, what an amazing car! So much fun to drive, and so confident in the corners. Fabulous acceleration (can't imagine what it must be like in 335, and M3 must be scary fast!). I honestly don't find the ASS to be as intrusive as others seem to, and will probably continue to use it unless it becomes a nuisance. So wasn't the most beautiful day today, but here are a few pics I took (with my iPhone - sorry for quality) last night and today. Thanks to everyone on this forum for their tips, wisdom and knowledge as I waited for the car to arrive. My CA said that turning the car over to me was the easiest delivery she had ever done as I already knew how to do pretty much everything (and a few things she didn't know!). And yes, that's snow in the last picture! Going to order my winter tires today. |

Congrats rjc !!! You have a very sharp looking M Sport ! I have the exact same colour & trim combo on order, to be built next week in Munich. Your interior looks very classy with the walnut/satin chrome trim. The M Performance grills also look good with Glacier silver.
Two of your pics really stand out for me; the 3rd one with the sweeping RR tracks in the background and the last one with the snow flakes. Well done !

FYI, both BMW Canada and BMWNA recommend Pirelli 210 (or 240) Sottozero 2 snow tires for F30. These "star-marked" tires have been tested and approved by BMW for fitment on F30. I have a set of 18" Pirelli 240s on order (225/45R18); I would have preferred the less expensive 17" Pirelli 210s (225/50R17), but 18" is the minimum wheel size for my car equipped with M Sport brakes.
Many thanks for posting your photos with your very unique scenery as backdrops. Your pics will help maintain my sanity while I await the arrival of my car to Vancouver. Have fun with your beautiful new machine, and keep an eye peeled for those moose lurking on the roads around Anchorage !!!

My local Costco has the 18" Blizzak WS70 for a good price, and I was considering those. I can't see ever driving faster than 75mph during the winter, so I'm not concerned with lower speed rating. Folks up here love them.
But I'd love to hear any thoughts from the enlightened members here. |

Thanks DerekS! Think I'd have any problems with the WS70 Blizzak?

If I currently wasn't driving a silver car, I would've seriously considered ordering Glacier Silver. F30 looks very classy in that color.
Well done, good choice.

Great Photography
Ahh, Alaska! After seeing nothing but ocean and desert sands for most of the year, seeing the untamed wilderness and treacherous beauty of your home state is quite refreshing. I had a chance to visit Alaska a few years ago and would love to go back. Alaska should be experienced in person to be fully appreciated! I particularly liked the pictures of the snowflakes falling on the car. Very cool!
Enjoy your all-season M-Sport! She's a beautiful car. The black grills are great, and really stand out against the silver paint. |

If you go with WS70 (non-RFT), you would need to carry a spare + jack/wheel wrench in your trunk. Given your typical winter conditions, would you really want to be dealing with a non-RFT flat in the snow with below zero temps ? The good thing about RFTs is that you could, if need be, carry on driving for approximately 80-100 miles before the tire is toast.
