Halloween - pretend you are not in or open door?

Our estate goes for Halloween big time! Houses decorated.

Gone are the days when we went out for dinner or turned all the lights off!

Who out there is miserable and pretends they are out?

These days would you honestly let your kids out asking strangers for sweets?

Carved pumpkins outside the front door let's the kids know that the house is open to 'trick or treat' and has sweets to offer.

The spirit around here is always good - no malice; just loads of children having s great time, escorted by their parents.

I was thinking the same thing on the way home.
We train our children not to accept anything from strangers but then allow this once a year.

Same here.

Soon as we run out of sweets the pumpkins come in & no one bothers knocking.

Not my idea of fun opening the door every 2/3 minutes but some of the yummy mummies make it less of a chore

My wife is on door duty😆

We then put a sign on door each year about 9:00pm saying “all sweets now gone, see you again next year!”.

Does the trick...exuse the pun!

Absolute procession here - bit of a shock being on a new estate after 14 years of living up an unlit unadopted road....

With a 1 year old we join in - his turn will come

Do you guys deck the houses up like we do here? There are a couple neighborhoods nearby that turn into a circus....people must spend hundreds if not thousands on their displays...and the amount of candy must be a couple hundred dollars as well.

90% of child abuse is in the home. You should be more worried when Uncle Jim volunteers to babysit than about some stranger giving sweets as you stand guard at the end of the drive.

Small number of decorations. Nothing too over the top!

Pretended we were not in. No one came anyway. For the last 5 years the bell was going at least 3 times even when we turned the lights off. Was nice to have a peaceful night for a change.
