does anyone know why the muffler PN changed in 9/12

does anyone know why BMW changed part numbers in 9/12 on the F30 335i muffler?

the 1858 PN weighs 13.100 Kg
the 6997 PN weighs 10.820 Kg

per ETK.

and to add to the mystery....i have 2 pics that span the PN change....only #'s stamped on the outside that changed are the build dates. thoughts???

Usually its a small change. Happens all the time. This one has the same fitment so its not a big deal.

the almost 5 lb weight difference is what's throwing me off.
