WHY is the LCI 340 Xdrive denied Adative Suspension as a single option?

For those of us living in the Northeast.... Here's my tire rant... But I have a valid question too...

I built online a non M Sport 340 Xdrive car. One of the options I had on my old 335 Xdrive was M Adaptive on a nice set of 18 inch all seasons. BMW now denies us the ability to add M Adaptive with a attractive set up all season tires. We must now go Track and we have options only for summer tires.

Has anyone been able to figure out how to go NON M sport, All season and M adaptive? Is BMW finally forcing us to buy true winter tires if we live in the North East.

Can someone with Xdrive even get around with summer tires in the winter? I can't see the logic by BMW making me skip the 1000.00 adaptive suspension and not let me hold on to 18/All Season.

Plus the standard 18 (from the old 335 sport) are VERY good looking standard wheels. Why not let us elect that adaptive suspension?

its BMWNA

you can get the track package (its a single option) with adaptive; $1800 or so.

Get ZTR and swap the wheels. It's that simple.

You'll probably make some money too, since MPSS + 398 set is more valuable than the more mundane 18" sets.

IF you are leasing, You could get ZTR and keep the 19s but swap out the tires day 1 for all seasons... keep your original tires to put back on before the lease gets turned in so you dont have to worry about returning with worn tires.

You can order it "standalone" if you order the M Sport Package. Maybe this was a change with the LCI because the 328/340 now come standard with sport suspension unless you order the luxury package.

Summer and winter tires are the way to go anyway.

Your first sentence contradicts the OP's goal. Your second sentence is factually incorrect.

Garage List
As far as the tires go, I negotiated this with the dealer: swap the summer performance for all seasons of my choice. They were happy to accommodate my request and there was no extra charge. The car was delivered with with the tires I wanted.

328i and 340i LCI do not come with sport suspension unless ordered with the M Sport package. They still come with base suspension although it was re-tuned to be more sporty than the pre-LCI version.

XDrive cars do NOT get the sport suspension EVEN IF you order M-sport or Track.

You can get the Adaptive dampers as part of M-sport OR as part of the Track package. But you still get the stock suspension and not the sport.

I just bought a 340i xDrive and would have got Adaptive if it was a stand-alone option. But it's not available that way.

Unless you get a Xdrive M235i. Same suspension as the RWD car.

Good Point... if only I could warm up to the Sport Wheels. But ALL Season 19s arent such a bad idea if they don't scratch the wheels when they take off the tires

M Adaptive gives you the adjustable shocks... its a must have for Xdrive. I realize springs might be a little different on a stock sport supension.

But it transforms the xdrive cars... and why would a commuter in the north east not want all season tires?

These dampers make a HUGE difference. But congrats on the new 340! Its a great unique car no other automaker can duplicate.

BMW still makes a manual, xdrive 6 cylinder. MB and Audi gave up!

What happens when you turn in a lease? Those All Seasons might not meet BMW spec. I like the idea of swapping tires prior incase they scratch the rims.

Maybe because all seasons are still a compromise and most people (the smart ones anyway) use true Winter tires. Best combo is Summer tires and Winter tires. The only trade off with that combo would be Spring/Fall but I would argue that's a smaller compromise compared to all seasons..... although maybe not this Winter.

This F31 ZTR owning commuter in the Northeast bought a set of used Style 396s from a forum member, new TPMS from another forum member, got Michelin X-Ice3 225/45R18 installed on those wheels (~$1200 total), and is now happy as a clam. In the only decent snowstorm we've had so far this winter, driving was ridiculously easy and fun. All-seasons - no thank you.
