In HK, I placed the order in Feb 4. They reply me that March production schedule is full. Have to schedule for mid April production. And hopefully arrive in HK in the end of June. (Hopefully is what they said)

Anyway, for me, no surprise at all. When I ordered my E90 335i before, it also require for 6 months time. I ordered it in 2007 and the car is being launched for 2 years already. I was curiously and asking them why it takes so long. They said normally the shortage is the engine. That's why we need to wait.

Ask for my 328i's VIN No. as E90Fleet suggested. If it is close to production, he will be able to produce it. If he can't, then heads are gonna roll!
Any news yet chap? Keen to see how this drama unfolds!

Just pushed for an update but he was still unable to confirm anything. I added it would be extremely inconvenient if it were to slip and he said he will keep me updated as soon as he knows, so now it's just a waiting game I suppose :/.

You're so civilized... "it would be extremely inconvenient if it were to slip" indeed! Wow, admiration for such manners and self-restraint.

"As a large proportion of our cars are fitted with N20 engines, there may have been a shortage at some point. However, there is currently no shortage of N20 engines."

The reply I got when I asked BMW UK if there was an N20 shortage.
Not adding up is it... I think I'm being messed about here like you lot have said...

Yep, I'm gonna pile the pressure on during next week, as I need to contact my lease company to extend my 330d contract next week at the latest. My 330d is in for its first MOT 3rd May so I could use that as an opportunity too.

I ordered mine on March 24th with an estimated delivery date of May 20th. Mine is actually 3 weeks ahead of schedule and shouldbe here the end of April/1st week of May! I guess my area wasn't effected by this delay?

I'm jealous...I ordered Feb 22 and it won't even enter production until May, with delivery in end June or early July!

Righty, he we go:

I pushed my sales man for an update on my delivery date and stated I am happy to go earlier but later will cause problems.
He replied, apologising, and saying the delivery date is showing 16/06/2012 because, as he mentioned before, there is a worldwide delay on the petrol engines. He will keep me updated as soon as there is a change, etc...

So I finally opened fire.
I replied saying I know there is not a shortage of engines and that the more likely reason for a delay in delivery is that the dealer has more profitable orders to fill sooner. I then brought in that BMW UK categorically told me there is no shortage of N20 engines. I also explained I have been taken though the BMW ordering process and referred to obtaining VIN numbers etc so the vehicle can be traced through the manufacturing and delivery system. I added I would hate to think this is the case.

"Can you please advise as your indicated delivery is nearly 8 weeks away", bearing in mind my 330d's gotta say bye bye's on the 28th May . At the time of order, he did say that the vehicle would no doubt be in sooner than the end of May, so I threw that in too.

So he replied, stating that there is in fact a delay of engines due to demand and he is going to show the internal memo to me next week when I am in, because my 330d is going in for its first MOT. Sounds like bullshit all around to me, it's just not adding up is it...
He continued to say that he will show me next week that the order went in on March 6th and he grabbed the production slot. He also quoted the order number. He rounded off saying that if one were to order a 328i now, it would be September before a delivery could be made. Crap!

So in search of confirmation, I rang a completely different dealer in the country, Sytner Birmingham in fact, and he confirmed that September was the expected date if one was ordered now as demand is high and the 328i affected. He added mid June was a good time slot.

So, I'm disappointed obviously, but more so that all the stories from BMW still don't add up! Very frustrating. Better get on the phone to my lease company and see if they would be obliging to let me overrun my 330d contract...

What do you guys think?

Interesting, it does seem that your dealer is willing to back up his story and he could very well be correct.

I think the delays affecting orders made presently are irrelevant though - that's just bluff & bluster on their part. You ordered your car in March so they should stick to explaining why your March order is delayed rather than commenting on the impact this might be having on recent orders.

I still find it very odd. It's not as though the forum is jammed with people in the same position as you. I would (politely) escalate it to the Manager of the dealership and perhaps BMW UK.

In the end though, they may be telling the truth so I think you'll need to remain diplomatic!

Best of luck and keep us updated!

I am going in to sign a PO and put down a deposit on a 328i tonight and this thread is freaking me out! Sales rep is telling me about 6-7 weeks. I don't mind a couple months or even up to 10 weeks, but I'm not going to be pleased if it takes longer than that.

Well, when I heard September delivery, the words "M" and "Sport" came into my mind as that will be released in June for September delivery, so you may be wise to hang on a month or two more to order the M Sport (if it's to your taste) to have it delivered around the same time. You are USA though so your lead time may not be as long, even though my dealer keeps uttering "global" and "worldwide" delay of petrol engines.
Sorry it's not helping your nerves, but if you're not bothered about the M Sport, I'd get it ordered so you don't have to wait even longer! Let me (and the forum) know how its going

That's my plan! Of course, the M-Sport also uses the same petrol engine that your dealer keeps saying are "globally delayed". Not sure how it's any different.

I should add that after I replied with "ammunition", my sales guy manager rung up immediately and ensured this is not the case and we had a bit of a chat and I must say, it's always great customer service at that dealership, it's just very frustrating that my 328i is delayed! My sales guy invited me for a coffee and a chat too whilst my 330d is having its MOT so I can't complain at the fact they don't care, it's just BMW's fault (not helped by the lack of information possibly from the dealership according to their protocol) for running out of production capacity! :P Oh well... It does help a lot having a great dealer... Just gotta wait it out.
Next task is finding some wheels between the 28th and 18th, because I'm away in America on business on the 16th (Saturday)!!

I ordered my 328i Luxury on April 11th. The production week is scheduled for mid-June with an estimated delivery date for the 1st week in July. The salesman also mentioned the internal memo which he read out to me. It basically said there 'might' be a delay on cars that use a latest batch of 4 cyl motors & to advise customers accordingly.

"Might" eh? Looking forward to seeing that then. Slightly less lead time than me on yours! Good luck with yours!
