the 335i is 1000 pounds more than a 330d x drive in the uk. if they price this like the 330d x drive this will be 50k bucks. with 240hp it looks like this is a detuned 330d. wow, wtf happen to the 4 cylinder they kept talking about?? are they going to bring 2 diesels in the 3 series? i won't be buying if this is it. funny i spoke to a bmw sales rep last week and he told me that they thought the 335d didn't sell well because it didn't have x drive. newsflash bmw. it didn't sell well because it was at the top of the 3 series snack bracket!
hey tune2run, did the bmw rep say anything about the 4 cylinder diesel? Last edited by kevlartoronto; 01-18-2013 at 05:21 PM.. |

I call BS on the spec sheet. No mainstream car diesel engine goes to 5800rpm (peak hp at 5800 actually suggests redline at 6500rpm or more).
Seriously, can't someone get this car's VIN? |

X2 the only thing I could see is a very low boost pressure. How can a 3l diesel do only 240hp at 5800rpm when the 50d is doing 381hp at 4600rpm? How can a diesel engine have a steady torque from 1300-5000rpm and a redline in the 6000+rpm??? This sound like bullshit. Make me wonder if it really is a 6cyl? Anybody actually open the hood on this thing?

It has a very high chance of being a 20d cos BMW launched the 320d in Japan near the end of last yr, & the diesel emission regs there are very similar to US EPA regs.
The engine specs of the Jap-spec 320d is identical to EU-spec 320d. On the foto it said single turbo, so it cannot be the twin-turbo N47 found in the 325d. |

oh, here is a little translation for our american friends. this is from that screen capture.
more torque than the petrol engine 2l which is already very powerful the latest common rail injection system which has about 2600 psi compared to the petrol engine model, which has about 2900 psi Last edited by kevlartoronto; 01-18-2013 at 07:54 PM.. |

European specs for 320d engine:
Power 184hp @ 4000 RPM Torque 280.25 lb-ft @ 1750-2750 RPM the 328d (if BMW will designate it so) power 240 hp @ 5000 rpm Torque 285 lb-ft @ 1300 - 5000 rpm torque seems to be on low side for a 3.0 turbo diesel engine and rpm seems to be high compared to most BMW current diesel engines?! |

There's no press release for this car at all? I am surprised that there are virtually no official information i can find for this car, and the info sheet from that ipad stand just doesn't add up.
I am dying for a 3 series diesel. seems like no one really cares about this car. |

In the comments at the link above someone posted a picture of the 328d specs from the Montreal show.
Unfortunately, they seem inaccurate as the poster pointed out. And I agree with them on both points a) the N57 I6 in 330d form is single turbo so it does not make sense that an even lesser 328d tune would be twin turbo (why balloon costs for no reason?) and b) no 3L turbo diesel is going to make only 295 ft-lb torque. I suspect that this may be an N47 TT I4 tuned to 240hp. The 295 ft-lb figure would then make sense. We'll see - hopefully soon. |

Thanks for posting the pic. I agree it looks more like a 4 cylinder.
And I apologize for the repeated information on my post; I posted before realizing this thread had wrapped to a new page. |

On the spec sheet, it says that it has a single turbo.

I'll have to look closer, I only saw "TwinTurbo" on the first line.
If this is an N57 single turbo rather than an N47 TT, the torque figure is still wrong. So no matter how you slice it something is wrong with the specs. I wish BMW NA were handling this launch better. Certainly someone at the company must know the true story - I wonder how long we will have to wait and speculate. |

ok i'm really bored tonight!! haha check this video of the euro 320d and compare the engine shown at around 1 min 30 secs and the pic of the engine from the montreal show. they look identical. it doesn't look like a 6 cylinder. Last edited by kevlartoronto; 01-18-2013 at 08:25 PM.. |

It need to have at least 225hp if it want to be called 28d as the 25d already as 218hp I believe the 240hp make sense but @4400-4600rpm maybe and from a 4cyl 2.0liter making 350ft-lbs then that would sound better.
