At the moment the wifes car will do for shifting stuff if needed, I did suggest this but she just said use hers for that. So that practical side should be covered. Finance side makes sense completely, just don't want to end up with a shit tip that costs me money so need to choose wisely if I go down that route. |

Buy on condition / owner / history not model.... it will do for a year or so and then you can have what you want again. I had a Volvo - did the job, cost me £500 in service and tyres, no issues, holds a bunch of stuff and nobody takes any interest in them!

Just imagine the house you'd have if you didn't have a 540i and a C63 returned in the last 6 months! It probably isn't even worth working out what the loss must've been!
Personally, if I was going for a load carrier, I'd pick an old Volvo over an old Audi, especially one with the mutitronic gearbox. Or, if you want super cheap and you genuinely don't care about appearance, try an 09 Passat, you can get loads of stuff in them. |

Passat is a good call. So is a Mondeo - the one before current is same underneath as V70 so plenty big enough. Ecoboost petrol should be cheap.... |

Multi tronic boxes from that age Audi are made of chocolate. Manual ones are ok.
My sister has a 1.8tdci Mondeo - 09 I think, never misses a beat even though it's badly mistreated by her! |

How did you get on with this? What car you end up with? I think I need to do the same.
I only do 5/10mins to work now, so 5k on old X5 would see my F31 pay for stamp duty! |

There is something quite liberating about older cheaper cars. I am currently paranoid about the dog scratching the bumper when getting in / out of the boot of my SQ5, never had those concerns with my old Volvo estate...
