My 328i got stolen from the truck
My dealer called me today and said that my 328i got stolen from the truck coming from Baltimore Port to DC area dealer. What a shocker!! seems like from the movies.
It was a 328i m sport EB2 lighting premium, heated seat. I waited 7 weeks after ordering from Germany Now the dealer says that I might have to order a new car and wait for another 7-8 weeks. what a nightmare. Any ideas folks? Last edited by praslee; 06-29-2013 at 02:47 AM.. |

Aww sorry to hear man,
well look at the bright side, you can get to reorder the options that you regret ordering. Also get the MY14

You could probably try and negotiate your way into getting dealer cost and a car payment back from BMWNA if you were financing or leasing. Sure it isn't their fault, but that's what insurance is for. They get reimbursed for the car, maybe even the loss of 2 months of business. They can work out a deal

I'd make them give you a 2014 at cost or below invoice and make sure someone in customer relations rushes it
It's not your problem BMW NA clearly doesn't have an effective system of controls over their inventory. |

I wonder how it was stolen? Assuming the car can't be driven without a proper key fob, the implication is that the keys are shipped with the car - either in the car itself, or in the truck that pulls the transport trailer. Either way, the thief would have had to break in to the truck and fire up the trucks engine, so that the hydraulics to operate the trailer ramps would have power. I wonder where the truck driver was during this time?
Or... Maybe the dealership sold the car to somebody else and is using the stolen story as an excuse? What would a thief do with a brand new, unregistered BMW? Joy ride? Chop shop? Transport out of country? It would be interesting to search for the VIN every once in a while to see if it turns up. |

As the car was stolen, the dealer/BMW are victims at least as much as the OP. This is not a situation of "making" the dealer do something. They sustained a loss and are at least as unhappy as the buyer.
I am certain they will work with the OP to provide the best deal/service possible as they certainly understand the disappointment he is experiencing. We can also empathize; it would be frustrating. |

Makes me think ordering the new one with the alarm and BMW Assist for tracking are valuable options...

Now imagine that car being F10 550i MT. Stolen. Bye-bye MT, forever. And ever. See, things could be SIGNIFICANTLY worse than reordering exactly the same car all over again if you chose to do so ...

That Sucks, Perhaps they can find a Dealer ordered inbound car and do a transfer so you are not waiting on a new production slot. I wish you luck. Worst case you can order a MY13 and get the new Nav and Launch Control. Are you at all interested in the 4 as that is an option now.

I worked at a car dealership when I was 16. I once left a car running for 30 seconds because I forgot to grab a plate because it needed gas. I got a talking to from the GM saying not to ever leave cars running while on the lot unattended. They had had a brand new car stolen from them a few years prior.
The way that these cars (and all cars) are shipped is to ease moving them around large space like the ports and on to the trucks. So what happens is that the key is left in the car, or the ignition, or now-a-days more likely a lock box that hangs on the window. This way the people that are responsible for moving the car, whether it be dock workers, detailers, who ever, can easily get in the car and move it to where ever it needs to go. Trucks aren't supposed to stop when they have cars loaded on the back for this reason. But yes, everything that goes along with the car is shipped inside of the car. Tow hook covers, wheel roundel caps, paperwork, keys. Everything is inside of the car. Again, this is why docks are locked securely and the trucks aren't supposed to make rest-stops. However, we're all human and mistakes happen. Thus why everybody involved has insurance. Have BMW make you a new car or have them find one for you that's already in the pipeline (exact specs on its way to another dealer for example). Understand though that you have very little power to "make" them do anything in this situation. I think that realistically the only thing you can demand is interest on your down-payment/deposit. Hope it all works out. |

Dealers lose cars EVERY month. I spent 13yrs working in them and saw it often. get Region involved, there are ALWAYS cars available to every regional dealer rep. You might not get exactly what you previously ordered but very well could get MORE options without the additional cost. (Regional reps order cars to allocate to deserving dealers 4 any number of reasons. These cars are usually sitting at the appropriate port awaiting further allocation, Use as press cars, demo cars, event cars etc)

Hire a henchman to kill the person in charge. We do this in Malaysia. Therefore, we seldom heard of this prob. Dealer have to bare all the responsible if customers car got stolen. And will be replace by one immediately.
