sorry to bump the old thread.

i'm scheduled for the drive event tomorrow for the 335.

does the dealer ride along with you like a normal test drive?
how long is the event experience?
and how much time usually you get behind the wheel?

i'm scheduled at bay ridge BMW in Brooklyn by the way.

Thanks!

You drive by yourself, the folks running the event just provide a map or directions of the route that you are supposed to take. The route is usually a couple miles or so around the dealership and usually lasts maybe 10-15 mins. If you go off route their insurance doesn't cover you, but they don't restrict you from doing that.

Most people only drive one vehicle, but you are allowed to drive two, and most of the time they don't care if you drive more than that unless its really busy. I recommend driving the 335i sports line for sure, its the red one. I wanted to try the audi as well but didn't get the chance when I had it.

Enjoy!

Thanks. I will enjoy it more without the dealer tagging along.

I asked them directly. It does not apply to "sold" orders--this includes orders palced but not delivered. If your production number sheet shows Priority 1 customer sold (like mine) you can't apply the $1000. discount.

Is it negotiable with dealer ?..I am going to try and bring in my code but doubt it. I did apply for the $750. owner loyalty and that was no problem, Just lease or fiance thru BMWFS (as little as &7500. on a purchase) and its yours.

I was able to apply it to my order when I did the drive after I placed my order. My CA said there was no guarantee she was able to apply it but she'll try when its time to sign the papers. So comes paper signing day and she applied the $1000 like it was no big deal haha.

I got unlucky and had a dealer rep riding shotgun (this was early June) - this was bcz an old guy went right before me and disappeared for over an hour - they even had the cops looking for him. I had already driven one but really wanted to try the red sport line to test the ride of 19" wheels. It didn't ruin it for me w/a rep onboard - in fact, he encouraged me to drive faster. I was tip-toeing around a blind bend and found a cop w/someone pulled over, so glad I was taking it easy at that point.

Can anyone here confirm that the $1000 discount is applied as a "rebate" AFTER the FULL out the door purchase price of the vehicle is calculated?

Or did you guys have it knocked off the PRE-TAX sales price?

Thanks.

the $1000 is treated like a cap reduction, you have to pay taxes on it, but my CA applied it towards the acquisition fee and the rest went into cap reduction where I paid less tax on it.

I see. I am buying outright, but that does make sense from a leasing perspective. I think it is correct that it is applied as a "rebate" on the sales form. But just double checking. Anyone else run into this?

Negotiated price + Tax & Fees - $1000 Team USA Discount = My price

This is how my sales sheet is written.

I ordered on Saturday and get to the event today where he now tells me it might not work since I bought the car a few days before.

I bought the car based on the prices quoted and written on that sheet.

So I told the CA I am confident he will do what he needs to do.

I hate to say it - & I hope it works out - but I wouldn't be confident that he can do anything about it at this point, as the allowance comes from BMW & it's their rules. I was ready to order 5/25 but after reading the fine print which says the $1000 allowance only applies to orders submitted after participation in the event, I waited until my event on 6/7 and ordered on 6/8. I had another dealer telling me I could order beforehand, that they would put an order under another name at first or something like that, but I was afraid to risk it. I realize some folks prob ordered before hearing about the event - not really sure what could be done in such cases but the dealer can only do so much since the allowance is from BMW.

I called usaa about combining the BMW drive event and their discount. They say the only way they can't be combined is if you finance through BMWfs. Any other bank including usaa will let you combine the too rebates

I just got my event redemption code email.

When you read the small print it clearly states it's not to be honored on cars ordered before the event.

The fault lies with my CA who wrote it into my sales sheet.

I sent a follow up email to him which states:

"Angel,

FYI, I was sent my information regarding the redemption:

"As a special thank you for your participation, we would like to offer
you a limited-time $1,000 BMW Drive for Team USA Allowance, good toward
the purchase or lease of a new 2012 or 2013 BMW model.*

Your redemption codes for this special offer are: OL12068-00XXXXX /
OL12131-F30XXXX."

I really would like this resolved soon.

I extended my comfort level for the payment agreed to of $(edited)and when
mentioning how I can wait, you said with the $1000 Test Drive Event, it
was the perfect time. Putting $1000 back into my payment as an increase
is simply not an option.

If your hands are tied and BMW corporate is causing the problem, we
will need to be more creative.

Thanks for your efforts,

-Jameson

I am being nice about it.

His manager can make it go away by finding $1000 somewhere else, giving me a build allowance to put back into the car, hell-offer me the more loaded Sport '12 loaner they have for the same payment, or offer me at least $1000 in parts such as wheels, snow tires. etc.

It should not have to get nasty if any of those things are offered.

Can anyone else comment on how their taxes were applied w/ the discount(s)?

Did you pay tax on the FULL negotiated price, then remove the rebate incentive after that price, then that was your total? Or was it treated as a reduction in the price of the car and taxed after rebates were applied??

I haven`t paid it yet but my CA calculated like yours. Negotiated price+doc fee+tax-$1000. He said that it is a rebate so it is applied after tax.

Picked up our car on 8/9 and the $1000 allowance came off BEFORE taxes - you don't pay the state tax on money you didn't spend. Hope that helps!

I should add that it is an allowance, not a rebate - a typical rebate may be treated as "cash back" so that, in the state's view, it's money you are getting and then immediately spending, so you pay tax on that. This "allowance" is more like a "discount" - it's not cash you could theoretically choose to take with you, so it's not money you are spending. Sorry if that isn't a great explanation - point is, if your CA is treating it as a rebate and doing the calculation so that you would pay tax on the amt of this allowance, that is incorrect.

Yeah.. That would be nice, except most of reports on here say it is taken off AFTER tax is charged...

Hmm.... I don't know who to check this with - BMW? The state? An accountant?

Called BMW.. they said to reference:

Automotive Sales Bulletin: Drive for Team USA Program Eligibility page 2

it states:

"incentive is taken off final negotiated price."

Which really means nothing, and could be interpreted multiple ways... WTF
