Terrified of my M Steering Wheel getting dirty or worn out...

Call me an anal bastard when it comes to keeping my new M Steering Wheel from getting dirty or worn out.

I ordered the 13' M Sport and I want to find a steering wheel cover that wont f*** the wheel up with an indention because it's too tight.

Any recommendations for a good wheel cover?

At first I thought you were joking. Just enjoy the car, the leather on the steering wheel is not going to fall apart. Just take care of it by cleaning with a damp cloth a couple times a week if you like. Avoid lotions and oils on your hands before driving and the leather will look very close to new after 5 years. Putting a cover on the steering wheel is like putting a plastic cover on your couch at home to protect the fabric. If you allow it you will drive yourself crazy worrying about every little imperfection on your car that you will not even enjoy it.

I suppose I could wear M driving gloves... ??? And I AM going to put something on that bit*h. I hate greasy finger prints on the wheel. Even if the cover is paper thin and made of suede.

The longer it is preserved, the better.

M Driving Gloves will work. And yes, I can always buy a new one I suppose. I just hate seeing people with beautiful cars and old as shit looking steering wheels.

When bad wheels happen to good people *shakes head*.

Covering things up with covers/cases like iPhones, and steering wheels, with the aim of preserving or protecting them to keep them looking good, always seemed a bit backwards to me. You're wanting to keep your wheel looking at its best, but by covering it up, you will NEVER see it properly at all! The only person who will benefit from it is the next owner?

Couldn't agree more. Take care of it, but enjoy it too!

That's how I see it.

BTW, does anyone actually wear out the leather steering wheel? If so, how long a period of time/mileage? My last BMW at 6+years and 55k miles, the sport steering wheel was still just like new.

You could go and discuss the same about the floor carpets: why keeping the original foot well clean with carpets (ok, for easier cleaning...) ? In that way you'll never see the original carpets AND you pay extra for the floor carpets

(If I use the wrong words, please forgive me, I'm dutch speaking .... )

Take a look at some used BMWs on your dealer's lot. You'll probably find many high mileage BMWs with like new steering wheels. These things are designed to be touched and caressed every single day. Putting a cover on it totally ruins the aesthetics and feel that BMW tries to perfect. If you are really freaked out about it then plan on buying a new wheel in a few years, there are some awesome suede BMW wheels with flat bottoms and shift lights that you can swap in.

Heck I'd even argue that a cover could cause premature wear faster than no cover at all. The friction of the cover moving over the wheel over time can't be good, let alone the dies that may leech into the steering wheel from the cover interacting with your sweaty hands.

But based on everyone's comments here you might be the ONLY M Sport owner in the history of the F30 M Sport that wants to cover his steering wheel. Just enjoy it and quit worrying. Focus your preservation mentality on other wear items that are seen every day. Maybe install a clear bra if that's your thing, have some clear coat protectant added, scotch guard your carpets, but really cover the steering wheel?? How are you going to protect your leather seats? They are gonna wear much quicker than the steering wheel.

Lol @ $14 Pep boys cover on a $50,000 car.

If you are wearing the wheel out that fast you either have really greasy hands (wash your hands more) or you just don't understand the concept of cleaning and leather care.

This ain't no rare Bugatti. If you wear out the wheel in a few years, spend a few hundred and buy a brand new one directly from BMW.
