Pay for service plan or not?

So I got a letter though asking if I want the 5 year service plan thing for £480 ish.

Is it worth getting or should I just pay for the individual service at 19k? I only intend on keeping the car for 3 years so not sure which works out best. How much does a service usually cost?

The place you get the service etc done is best place to get it from, push for some discount on it.
They will be your nominated service centre so they may be open to some haggling.

If you are keeping your car for 3 years prob not worth it as you would probably on have one service? Depends on your mileage. 1 service no point; 2+ services, pays for itself. Simples.

Garage List
I didn't bother. 4 year pcp.

I'll just shop around come service time - which is in 9000 miles.

I didnt bother, i simply keep costs to a minimum by supplying my own oil at service time and having the brakes done at an independant as brake pad/ disc costs are not included in bmw's service incl. IMO Just screw the dealers down come service time, shop around and keep the 500quid in your account.

I've never actually "paid" for a service package yet... last two cars we bought I used this as the very last haggle point before shaking on the deal.

Though to be honest I think I'd rather have get that money off the car and paid for servicing myself.. in which case I would also do oil changes more regularly than is suggested... more like every 12,000 miles. If you have the service pack then you can't really do this.

Yeah I will probably just pay for the service come service time. How much is the first service?

Also, what oil would I need to use on a 318D if I need to top up?

To give you some idea of servicing cost's my first service at 19k was £268 and the second service at 38k was £473. I think it is well worth it if you are doing the miles or keeping the car for 4 years or more.

I'm 8 months into ownership and having my first service at 18,000 miles on Friday.

Looking forward to coffee, biscuits & wifi whilst I get what is now a "free" service (I say "free" seeing as I've mentally written off the cost)

Next one will be in March / April and also "free".

Third "free" one will be just before I hit the 50,000 mile cut-off next autumn.

Personally I'm glad I bought Service Inclusive.

Yeah my PCP is only on a 3 year plan so no point getting the service plan. Will only be having the £19k one. I will probably get a new car after a year and a half anyway by taking out a new deal.

Is the service plan valid at any dealership? Or only the one you buy it from?

Service pack is transferable though is it not and can help assist resale value?

It is yes but from selling previous cars with service plans it makes no difference to the price you sell for.

I often kind of feel that with many things that are meant to improve value come resale time!

If selling privately, it does make a difference, buyers value that the servicing is covered for x many more miles. Like having warranty left on a car.

Trade sales, they might play it down, but even BMW dealers know it adds value, it is usually one of the plus points they mention to punters when selling it.

Totally agree, by brother has just bought a 63 plate mini and all's they went on about was the service pack. Treated it like gold dust to the used car buyer
