Problems
Hi all,
I've been talking with Riaz who's been excellent in helping resolve a problem but I wanted to ask the greater community if anyone else is suffering with a stiff brake pedal on start up of their auto? Mine's a 335d 15 plate and has had the door squeaks sorted but they could do with a few more people volunteering information (complaining!) for BMW UK to recognise it as a fault. Cheers.

I have 14 plate F31 335d and have encountered the same. Never has bothered me as always returns to normal after start but would be interested to know whether it's an issue that needs to get sorted.

Can't say I've had any problems with my brake pedal on starting. Not that I've noticed.

Same here. My 328i F30 (also a sport auto) didn't do it. But my 335d does pretty much every start up where it previously hasn't been driven for a bit. Did it from new too.

Had the occasional stiff pedal !!! Which required a hard push down to get things started.
But put this down to the fact that I tend to use a pedal lock when the car is parked up Doesn't happen all the time though. Might try without the pedal lock - could this be responsible for the brake warping that some people have experienced ???

I have exactly this "issue", overnight the car develops the stiff pedal but it goes on start-up.
I assumed it was normal having never driven an auto before although I guess on reflection there is probably not a link there. Will be interested to hear the outcome but I suspect the answer is its not a problem. Part of me would be worried about all the "problems" I will notice when I got the car back from any warranty repair, I always seem to find things I never noticed pre repair such as loose trim that the garage swears it never touched

If you depress the brake pedal after the engine has stopped then you are likely to encounter a stiff pedal when you come to start it up again. This is perfectly normal is almost any car. The softness of the pedal normally is because of the servo assistance which of course is only available with the engine running. Id be much more concerned if you had issues when driving the car but from your statement that appears to be fine.

Does sound like assistance being drained away, wonder if it might be more prevalent in diesels due to the method they develop the vacuum and maybe system leaches the assistance away more readily |

I just tested my 330D this morning by pushing the brake without pressing the starter button.
The car has not been used for a week, I got one and a half strokes of the brake pedal with assistance. When I park my car I always turn off the engine with it in Park and no feet on the pedals. For those having a problem it may be worth making sure you don't have your foot on the brake when you turn of the engine to see if this helps. |
