Oil Change Kit

So i'll be honest this is my first bmw (435i n55 engine) and I've never changed the oil for it always had the maintenance plan but it ran out so I'm left either paying the dealership to do it ($160+) or doing it myself. I'd rather do it myself since I know it'll be cheaper. Can I get a link to an oil filter and oil recommended for my car. I was looking at this combo https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...11427566327kt1 but is that good or is there a better option? I also found one on ECS tuning https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assemble...tion-i/n54oci/

True - either kit you mentioned will do the job. The FCPEuro replacement promise includes used oil & oil filter, but shipping back the used oil would be a bit steep as you're on the opposite coast.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry the oil lol. Other parts though.

Not really, I'm in LA and it costs 18.50 with usps priority mail flat rate in their large box.

The large priority mail box perfectly fits the 5qt jug, 2 single qts and the filter.

18.50 for a 66 dollar kit is an awesome deal

I love FCP Euro and purchase literally everything through them. However, I think I like them so much that I feel bad returning oil to them. I have returned many suspension parts and filters over the years for my volvo's but never the oil. Either way I HIGHLY recommend them. Phenomenal company.

FCP also has my vote. Cheaper than ECS oil change kit with same filter / same or comparable oils and with the return policy works for me. Either supplies what you need and are a heck of a lot better than having the dealer do it.

BMW dealers usually have competitive pricing on oil/filter especially when ypu take shipping into consderation from online parts warehouses.

Fortunately all those online parts warehouses (FCP and ECS) ship free over $49.

if you buy filter from dealer it only costs like $12 and comes with both filter O-rings plus the drain plug, 5 quart jug of Castrol synthetic $24 plus 2 more quarts if you got a 335 $16...that comes out to about $52 and includes free same day shipping since you are getting it yourself lol

Thanks, that's good to know for next time. I just paid FedEX almost $30 to ship my oil kit back to FCPEuro. USPS for sure going forward.

For future reference this is the USPS box you need. And you need to put the 5qt jug in diagonally. It won't fit flat down.

Hmmm, whenever I've ordered oil kits for my car from FCP Euro, they always send me the five 1qt containers (no jug). Will those (along with the oil filter) fit in that box you think?

You could probably just keep the box and reuse it.

So quick and dirty on oil. First set "XW", X being a number, refers to resistance to thickening in the winter or cold environments. The second set is the resistance to thinning under hot conditions. The higher the number, the more resistant it is.

Most N55 guys run 0W or 5W-40. Synthetic 5W is usually good enough for winter use. As for brand, LiquiMolly, Castrol, or Mobil are all great. I personally run LiquiMolly 5W-40 for my N26.

0w40 for year round in NYC. The 0w40 will have more VII (Viscosity Index Improvers) but they've become better.

I drop my old oil off at my local Auto Zone store. Most of them, and other parts supply stores, offer free oil recycling drop-off.

any reason why FCPEuro doesn't sell a 0W-40 oil kit?

Surprised more people don't use Amazon. I buy a Mann Filter(same as factory BMW), and Castrol 0W-40 every time i do my N55 oil change. Its under $50 for oil and filter.

Paying shipping back to FCP sounds like an immense waste of money considering there are so many auto places that offer that service for free.
