BootMod3 for Vancouver B.C Users?

Hi everyone,

Long story short I'm wanting to get a BM3 Flash now that I have my ER catless downpipe on there. with the MPPK, the power is significant but I'd like to make this boy go even faster.

Currently have a 2014 335i xDrive Msport that's fully loaded .

Problem is, who in Vancouver B.C is capable of doing it? Does anyone know?

Bootmod3 will be offering OBD unlock as well. Currently under test.

The best way is still to take the DME out physically and unlock and flash that way.

Why is it the best way?

IIRC, the only difference between them is OBD flashes don't reset the flash counter which starts at 60 and counts down to zero. I'm assuming tuners will make multiple maps to select from without the need to reflash, so the chances the counter running down to zero are quite slim.

What's the big deal if the counter doesn't go back to zero and your car is past the warranty phase?

From what I hear, the full readout is quite important and the flash counter is as well. If you need to send logs back and forth, you can max out your flash counter very quickly, and apparently if you do, you can brick the DME. It happened to a S55 DME and they had to clone a new one.

Also, if you are under warranty, as told by PTF, the only way you can go back to full stock flash is by unlocking. Which means, if your car needs to go in for warranty repair, they will completely void your drivetrain warranty.

I personally think people should wait until the OBD unlock is perfected before jumping on it. To me, it seems they released it 50% complete.

Do you have any details on how to revert to stock with the DME removal process? Is it as simple as re-encoding the DME with ISTA, or does it require another DME removal?

Another way to ask that question, suppose you have the original BM3 unlock and take the car into the dealer for work. If they update the DME without asking, would it cause damage or just revert to stock?

You flash the stock map that was pulled from the DME after it's been unlocked.

If the dealer updated your DME then it is reverted back to stock and has to be unlocked again to flash a new fuel map.

As jared said, you flash the stock flash that was given when you unlocked via removal. Easy as that.

If they update the DME, it would not change anything, the DME is unlocked forever so all you have to do is flash your maps.
