435i brutal, scary car
Well, I've just let my old man drive me in my new 435i (mSport, 8AT, etc, mSport brakes, MSport PASSIVE suspension).
He had a Mini Cooper S back in the day - the ORIGINAL one, and he used to track it. He and his brother rode bikes, hard. To be frank, he scared me ****less. He, and I, are totally blown away by this. He drives a new 535. I have driven 5 series BM's for the last 5 years and he has driven BM's since the early 80s. And he and I both agree: this is the most incredible car we've ever driven. To all the reviewers who have said this car is "boring": you DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. This thing makes me **** myself. (Maybe all the reviewers have actually been turned off by the adaptive suspension. I don't want to invite flames here - but I had adaptive drive on my last car, a F10 530d, and all it really did was insert a pillow under each wheel, regardless of the mode, and remove me from the road). Just putting it out there. I really wouldn't want this car to be any more brutal than it is already. |

What on earth did you drive before that makes the 435i **** yourself? Is there really that much difference?
I drove a 540i before my 335i and I can say it was not that big of a difference. |

Obviously the OP has never driven or ridden in an M5/M6, or a highly-tuned N54-engined 1- or 3-series...

What's wrong with everybody?
Maybe it was pushed to the limit through corners or maybe even drifted. Who knows, but there is a lot of ways to become scared in a capable car like that. |

This seems to be lost on this crowd. "Excitement" doesn't kick in until you turn the wheel. Horsepower has very little to do with it.

IMHO how brutal a car feels is largely dependent on how the driver drives it, and it sounds like the OP's dad can drive. I've been driven around tracks from insane drivers who think super late apex around every bend and don't really know believe in braking. That kind of driving can transform even a 240hp car into a brutal experience.

I once scared a car salesman sh!tless when I took a Peugeot 405M16 down a road I scratched knee-down on a Yamaha FZR. The M16 wasn't that powerful, but going around bends at 9/10ths will give you white knuckles in the passenger seat.

We've all seen the Chris Harris vid of him drifting a 435. Put someone in the passenger seat who may be a bit faint of heart and it's possible he or she soils themselves.

So far the only cars that I have driven that I was like whoa after driving them are the R35 GTR and a heavily modified Z06. I like our cars, they are fun and perform well but it's not 'scary' fast by any means.
Drifting is another story, you can take some relatively low powered cars that are dialed in and with a good driver and it 'feels' scary.
