We got about 140" last year, which was a new record. I'd guess 80" is about average. By way of comparison, a basketball rim is 120" high. Of course, it stays cold enough that snow tends to accumulate all winter long, unlike many communities in the lower 48 where new snow tends to melt off.

I'm sure the Pirelli sottozero winter tires are great for many places, but ice traction is crucial here, and many people get studded tires. I just picked up a set of Blizzak WS70 for my car, which people up here swear by. This is a good look at what our winter roads look like: |

+1 Cool pic. Do they plow/salt the roads in the winter? Plowing and salting in the Chicago area is common, but I would think you're inundated in Anchorage.

Not the most exciting video ever, but here is a snow dump in action: Snow Dump Video And an action shot of snow removal (note the long line of empty dump trucks waiting to be filled): |

Great car! Im ordering a 320xd Touring, with m-package and silver too, so was great to see yours! Do you know if the X is any taller than the regular F30ies?

Congrats! Great minds obviously think alike. I can't say for certain, but think I've read that the X drive M sport is about 10mm higher than non X drives.

That's a great point, and a real concern. Has anyone used this product or have any strong feelings about it: Slime 70005 Spair 7-Minute Flat Tire Repair System
Claims to be OK for TPMS sensors. I'm loathe to carry a full size spare in the trunk during the winter months, and hope this might save the day if [and when] I ever get a flat. Quote:

Just ordered a set of M5 replica wheels in gunmetal from **********s. These will be my winter wheels matched with Blizzak WS70 tires. I seriously debated just swapping out winter tires 2x year on my stock rims, but ultimately decided that the cost of doing so + the apparent risk of damaging my all season run-flats wasn't worth the potential savings. Plus, these wheels look amazing on the F30!
Kudos to Elliot at **********s for breaking up a set of staggered M5 wheels and giving me a square set of 18x8. I know others have recommended **********s, so I'll just second those comments and note that they provided excellent service to me. I'll post pics once I have them installed. |

Once you get your winter wheels/tires installed, maybe you should dub them "the moose evaders" ?
