KevC, did you ever figure out the error code, or get the MTEC replacements to work?

Thank you for this guide NISFAN.

Coded my car to bring on fogs with DRL when opening the car.

The orginal fog lights looked awful. Found this old post and changed to the MTEC bulbs... great matching colour.

Plus the guide even made it easy even for me to attempt!!

Hint for others: if you care more about the visual effect, DO NOT go for the osram cool blue intense they're just slightly whiter then the oem ones (on attached pictures, you'll see one on the right side as you look at it)

However, I have to admit, they are bright and great for cornering - sort of compromise

Sorry to bump this thread. Found it impossible to get the bulbs out on my 335 due to the radiator/intercooler there. wasnt able to twist and get them out. Is there another way to do this?

I bought them from MTEC directly for $50 USD I believe. I emailed info@onspire.com since I'm in Canada and their website doesn't allow shipping to Canada.

Did you not turn the wheel to the side and unscrew the bolts holding the lining in? Worked pretty well for me.

Sounds like instead you're not squeezing the tabs properly. I will say that when I was doing it the first one came off perfectly, but the second one I was having trouble with. I realized that I wasn't squeezing it in the right place because once you do it twists just fine. When I was doing it wrong I had a similar problem where it felt like there wasn't enough room to move.

Yes squeeze, then pull out the connector. Once the connector is disconnected from the fog light, removing the light takes 1 second literally. Here's a good video of it that helped me too, and I would follow the instructions to remove that 4th bolt further in, definitely made it easy:

Ah okay, that makes sense. When the second one was pissing me off I tried to twist without removing the connector too. It wouldn't budge though, probably because the wires are perfectly long enough to not give much slack. Good luck!

I hope H8 35w MTEC MT-471 bulb is still the one to go for in 2019 as i've just ordered a set.

I have adaptive lights where the fogs turn on as i turn the wheel so want to stick with halogen to maintain the soft on-off and avoid blinding people as i turn.

How did that turn out for you? Yellow fogs are slightly annoying me during winter months.

Actually very impressed with them. They are a near perfect colour match to my headlights.

Those really are a great match. 5k are too blue and 4300 too yellow. When my current 4300 Phillips die if the mteck still exist I will pick up a set.
For now they are new and close enough to not be notably different from the drivers seat, nor at first glance, which is to say good enough!

So my wife tagged a garbage can with the right corner and popped the fog into the bumper. Broke one of the two tabs on the bottom and broke off part of the support panel. I can get a new support panel, BMW Support Panel 51-11-7-266-198, for $30 but anyone know how hard it is to replace it? or just I just try to jbweld the part back in place?

You might be able to get to it by loosening the wheel well liner & attacking it from behind, but check the online repair manual for more info. Good luck!

I did my 2013 Lexus GS 350. No problem. Same with wife’s Highlander.
When I disconnected the socket wire on the 435 there was a lot more hardware and like a plastic box, couldn’t just twist out the bulb like on the other two.
Also Toyota wires there cars way better than BMW.
Thoughts on my problem ?
Thank you

A few tips for those interested:

- Make sure the bulbs are 'Cosmos Blue' MTEC Do 3 variations of the same bulb and each look very different in terms of light temperature but have the same specs

- You only need to remove the two bolts on the outside of the wheel arch. I had no need to remove the bolt further in.

- Make sure you remove the connector block before twisting the bulb. I didn't on the first one and snapped off the little lug to stop the bulb from twisting!

Anyway all good and a good match for the Xenon headlights. What do you think?

Left side new bulb, right side original

New bulbs fitted

By any chance did the one part that snap make it so it the aiming was off? I installed some new bulbs and one is aiming higher that the other. Same thing happened to the little lug on mine.
