Apple CarPlay
Afternoon.
2013 320D Gt on the drive, would love to add CarPlay and have read that it's an MMI box or an android screen. Install looks straightforward, but I was wondering what the pros and cons are of each solution Cheers |

Attempted installing car play for my 2015 gt. Gave up because I was installing it and was scared to mess up the wiring. I have the NBT system. I thought I had NBT EVO which is a little bit easier to install. I ended up selling my CarPlay box to another GT owner. He installed it with no issues and loves it.

I'm not sure if CarPlay is build into the android screen. I've never heard of that. Every video online shows people installing the MMI CarPlay box.

Replacing the screen that supports android and carplay is very easy to install, without the need for special experience (there are many videos on youtube on how to do this). With android mobile phone it did not work well for me (huawei P20). Poor response and low resolution in all applications. It also does not support wireless. I'm back on ios (13 pro) and the difference is day to night. Wireless and wired connection, fast response, excellent resolution and I use it constantly. The sound in general, I tend to say that it is probably better than the factory plus that it is quite customizable if you have the right speakers. In all the above cases, another positive, is that I now have a 10.25 "screen as opposed to the 6.4" it had from the factory for the native NBT. The 10.25 "does not bother at all in visibility and I am not tall… So don't bother thinking about going for the 8". 10,25" is the one way beauty!

I was struggling with this decision and went for the MMI option. I only have the small 6.5" screen but Google Maps is fine as is Spotify and other music apps. It fires up as soon as I start the car so I'm not sure why the poster above say the only use it 5% of the time unless they only listen to the radio. I'm either listening to Spotify or BBC Sounds when I'm driving and the sound quality is a big step up from the standard radio. I got mine from Droid UK but paid £120 to have it fitted along with a reversing camera which cost another £35 but is well worth it. The install of the reversing camera was tricky for the installer but he works on a car assembly line so knows his way around cars.
