Installing OEM rear spoiler flush or weather tight?

Hey everyone, I'm getting ready to install an OEM rear spoiler. It didn't come with the double-sided adhesive material so I'm applying it myself. The question I have is how close to the edge should the tape be? Should I fill in the gap and try to get the carbon fiber to lay flat on the trunk? Or should the adhesive tape run right along the edge. Which would ensure the most weather tight fit, but it would probably lift the spoiler up about 1mm above the trunk.
