I agree, although to to be fair, I bet 99% of xdrive owners are perfectly happy with the standard suspension, we who seek better performance from it are in the minority, they can't and never will satisfy everybody. |

The "Joy" campaign was about 5 or 6 years ago now, maybe 7... I'm trying to think of any other campaigns I have seen in the interim....

Personally I would stick with the 3 series, unless the 6 totally covers all your needs and does not mean you are limited in its full use - been there with having 2 seaters etc. Also from your post you have Never driven a 335d? Have you driven any Xdrive car? If not you are falling in to the slagging something off before you get it thing. It may be that the car actually feels ok to you, or suitable, it may be too soft a ride etc - however unless you drive an Xdrive 6 pot you won't really know. Prejudging going off a small number of users. (Note, not saying anyone is wrong, I happen to agree lol). Also 650 is on scheme of things not much cash. Not when you consider you will want the power upgrade as well after a few months on here and of course, winter wheels, Msport spoilers and kit etc The main bit is will the 640d cover all basis and how long do you plan on keeping your car? |

We've just done this same conversion on a 6 series car from the west coast of Ireland. It was a 640d GC (M Sport) and he went for the 21" forged wheels, springs, performance upgrade, exhaust, carbon rear diffuser and the carbon front spoiler shown in this photo (not the chrome grille). He was blown away by the performance and handling, but above all the ride quality, even on crappy Irish roads. And it looked stunning.

Spot on, I have absolutely no issues with my adaptive 335d's suspension and I don't hang about.

My ex-brother in law swapped from a 640d to a 335d and never looked back.
took a huge hit with the depreciation on the GC, it was savage, TBH he was so relieved to get rid in the end. even a six month one will depreciate bloody quickly - but then again so will the 335d hmmm |

OK, thanks for the discussion everyone. It has certainly helped.
Two very different cars. 3 vs 6 Saloon vs Coupe 4 door vs 2 door x-drive vs RWD Very common vs pretty rare (I mean 3's in general, not the 335d as I've never seen one!) Had a discussion with my wife. Had to deal with a few difficult questions about my car habits such as Why do you always want more? Why are you never happy with what you've got? And so on. With us having kids we (she) decided that the 6 would be impractical. I could get two cars but don't think I can justify it. Having a second car just so I can drive the 6 myself would be ridiculous. I don't fancy the 6GC, just looks too big. I do actually prefer saloon cars (real ones, not GCs), its just having a 6 for a couple of days last year has screwed with my head as I loved it. Made me feel very special indeed, but its just not practical. That's hard to accept, that's family life I suppose. So the 335d it is! Was great to read a couple of positive comments about it above. I will go into it expecting to love the car. I'm really looking forward to the extra gadgets over the 330d I've got at the moment: ACC, HUD, Xenons, Adaptive headlights, etc. If the suspension is an issue, I'll deal with it at the time. Now I just have to wait 4 more weeks to collect. Couple of added bonuses choosing this option: not having to cancel my order for the 335d. Wouldn't have enjoyed that. As a result, don't lose my deposit. I get a car on a '15 plate with 3 year warranty rather than a '14 plate with 2 year warranty (chances of me keeping either that long? Nil!) Finally, I have an agreed trade in for my current car which makes life more straightforward as with the 6 I'd have had to sell it privately. |
