It's probably just a pinhole and the coolant comes out as steam when hot and under pressure.

Well the guy came, took it to BMW reading and I'm getting a wonderful 1 series dropped off in a bit.

The guy kept on mentioning a leak from the egr area is fairly common but it was clear he didn't want to poke around too much

The intercooler coolant doesn't go much above ambient temperatures

I think EGR is cooled by engine coolant, not intercooler coolant.

The guy said it was clear there was a problem. I think he also meant it was pointless wasting his time when I'd need to go to BMW regardless so it made sense to dump it with them whilst they are open rather than faff around.

As Teaston said, you probably have a pin hole in the rad somewhere. Not easy to pick up the leak as it drips onto the engine undertray and probably comes out somewhere complete different. It does have antifreeze in it, so should leave a stain.

If it is a holed radiator, ask about the rock guards as fitted to later cars.

Isn't this the reason there is a EGR recall?

I thought the EGR recall was for something else.

Im just sitting here waiting for the phone call to tell me that they found nothing, they pressure tested and it is fine and it's a waste of time.

I dont think Coopers Reading let the BMW assist guys jump any queues as its been open 2 hours and my car is where I left it.

You might hear tomorrow!

I'm not sure there is any queue jumping, next available slot in my experience. All about work load. I've had calls saying the car is booked in, but may not get looked at until the next day, as they were so busy.

My car is already booked in tomorrow for an Air Con issue. I'll probably take my own position

Don't forget they're probably bloody busy with the 300,000 BMW's that have been recalled!

I would have thought they would have seen the BMW assist vehicles as a higher priority though. Not that I think my issue is more important, I would just have thought it would have naturally have been seen as a higher priority vehicle.

I do get annoyed when they request cars there for 8AM and make a big fuss about "between 8 and 830" etc yet its been sat there for 5 1/2 hours and nothing.

Maybe they realise that they've got my appointment tomorrow to use as time to do this and as bmw assist have already provided me a vehicle until tomorrow evening there is no rush.

Who knows.

This morning I started looking at the tracker as a curiosity in how early it'd go indoors and vanish but as the day went on I've been checking it every 15mins or so to see if it has moved.

I think I've annoyed myself enough now meaning I'll be checking every 15mins until I leave the office now.

.... more annoyed now as I just called to see how it was going.

"Yes sir, the service technician Mark who is working on your vehicle is currently in the workshop with the vehicle at the moment but he has mentioned he wants to call you later about what he has found so far...."

........................the car has not moved from where I left it! Why lie and tell me the tech is actively working on it whilst I'm on the phone.

Well I called up at 5pm as I thought it'd have given the poor guy almost 2 hours to realise my car was still outside. "Yes sir, you will get a call back within 5-10mins"....
...
......
18:10, garage is shut. Car hasn't moved

18:30, garage just called despite it officially being shut to ask what is wrong with the car and that there was a long queue of cars in before me. I hope it still gets the AC looked at tomorrow.

Well a whole day of progress. The car moved indoors at 0815. It sat there all day and "wasn't seen because it has been busy" so my Aircon issue that it was in for hasn't been looked at either.

I got told "well, we don't know when we will get to it but you have a courtesy car"

I just want something better than this shitty 118i
I fear it might not survive the abuse I want to give it.

I was asked if I minded a auto/manual and that was about it.

The 1 series seems a perfectly capable car if it had more power. Its nice to have a car with air conditioning again though
