Early 2013 Timeline

Here is my current timeline for my 335i:

Order placed - 12/19/12 (Dealer had allocation for January 2013)
Dealer told me on 12/28/12 that car would be produced the week of 1/12/13
Production Begins - 1/14/13
Production Ends - 1/19/13
Awaiting Transport to Bremerhaven - 1/21/13
Arrives at Port - 2/5/13
Still awaiting ship - 2/14/13

This is a great thread learn how to follow your car's production. It also has a link to the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics WEB site to track your car once it is in their possession or on a ship.

http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=680467

This site will tell you all about your car and includes the date it finished production:

http://www.bmwvin.com/

Now if your a little nuts like me, you can get more information about when your car will get on a ship or to the port. First get the VIN number of your car from your dealer. Then subtract about 20 numbers from the end. Plug that into the bmwvin WEB site and find the production date. It should be about a week before your car completed production. Then call BMW at 800-831-1117 and give them the last 7 numbers of VIN before yours (vehicle production status). For me, the car with the VIN -20 is still in port so I have a good wait before mine gets on a ship.

You can also use the track and trace and see what VINs are getting onto ships. The wild card is the % sign. So type in the first few numbers/letters of your VIN like WBA3A9% and do a track and trace. You can then see the VIN numbers that were received at terminal or loaded on vessel. You can then take those VIN numbers and see when they were produced at bmwvin.

As of 2/14/13, I see a lot of Sport models being loaded ahead of mine. Some were produced after mine so they are either lucky or Sport models have precedence.

Unfortunately for those of us that are waiting for their car in 2013, you can go to Google Maps and map Bremerhaven. Go to the satellite view and take a look at all the car lots at the port. They have massive car storage there. I only hope it's first in - first out!

Good luck!

Ordered mine November 21st and I'm looking at a March delivery. My South African build took twice as long as my German one and three times as long to ship. The car has spent more time at sea than Magellan.

Early 2013 Timeline

Just an update to my 2-14 post. My car has an N in the 11th position of the VIN number which indicates it was manufactured in the Rosslyn BMW plant in South Africa. Therefore, the timeline you see in my original post should say awaiting transport to Durban and not Bremerhaven. It is still at the port awaiting transportation as is the car produced a week before mine.

It is interesting that the 335i is produced in Rosslyn. Most of the posts I've read show that the 328i was produced there and the 335i was produced in Munich.

Looking at the Google Maps satellite view of the Durban port, there is no shortage of car storage there. There is a four level car garage to the north of the port.

The ship shown in the satellite view is the Serenity Ace which is part of the Mitsui OSK line. They do sail somewhat directly into Brunswick GA and Baltimore MD. They also transship via Bremerhaven to ports in the northeast and CA.

I'll be lucky to see this car before the middle of March.

My car is an east cost VPC for about a week. Is this normal? Should I be concern about a car damage occurred during shipping?

My CA says my car is on the Supreme Ace which sailed out of Durban on the 16th. It will arrive in Bayonne NJ NEAT on 3/13. Seems as though I should have my car mid March. No transship via Bremerhaven. Took 3 days for the 800 number to update and longer for My BMW WEB site.

German build 335i RWD

Order 'placed' on 1/2
Production start on 2/13 (took forever to get a build slot because atthe time a RWD 335i slot was hard to come by in Ohio)
Production end 2/21
Transport to port 2/23
At port from 2/24 - ?

Hoping it gets on a vessel tomorrow. Would put it in the US on 3/20 then hopefully into may garage 7-10 days after that.

Picked it up from the dealership on 2 April! I think it is hilarious that the 800 number and the OC is still showing "in transit".

I'll be doing ED next month on my EB2 335i M-sport. I just found out that due to lack of available space at the Welt, my car hasn't entered production until today. I was wondering why my status kept reading "order documented" for over a month now. Either way, it's finally in production and I am super stoked to pick her up in Munich!!

It takes ~2 weeks on a ship and another week just to transport to your dealer (depending where it is) once it makes it to port. Production takes about 10 days average once it starts from what I've seen on here. So that's a little over a month. The wildcards are 1) how long it takes from when the order is received to when production starts, 2) how long it takes from production complete to getting out of port, and 3) how long it ACTUALLY takes once it gets into port in the US.

I ordered on the 13th and still don't have a production date assigned. Once it starts production, I'm just going to assume 5 weeks (so it better start soon)
