It was cold enough here in the Pacific Northwest for me to finally turn on the steering wheel heat. It warms up pretty quickly. The button is on the steering column on the driver's side. I found it without too much fumbling.

If you hit the phone button on the wheel, your recently called numbers will appear in the gauge cluster and you can use the scroll wheel to select between them. This saved me a preset button for calling my wife. Quite handy.

Haven't seen this posted yet, but just as well known with previous 3 series cars,
you can extend the range of the remote fob by pushing it against you chin...
essentially using your head as an antenna.

That's common knowledge and works with any key remote haha

I didn't think there was a way to turn off the iDrive control screen, but when I activate voice and say "heads up display", it toggles off the screen. Do anything with the iDrive controller and it toggles back on. Is that supposed to happen? If so, then I like it.

I have my iDrive in split screen mode, where it shows album art on the left side, and GPS on the right.

I don't normally use GPS since I know where places I need to go are but the other day I had to go somewhere I've never been.

The GPS is setup with top down view, north oriented. What happened is that when I was approaching a turn off, the view changed, and it turned into a lane-assisted view. Showed me what lane I needed to get into. Never saw that before.

You can also turn the display off directly by clicking Option and selecting the corresponding line (I can't remember the exact wording).

I programmed shortcut button 5 to turn the display off as I don't always want the screen on. The shortcut button also acts like a toggle and will turn it on if the display is off.

If the display is off and you have the rear camera and put the car in reverse, the display will automatically turn itself on to show your the camera view; very nice design!

P.S. you can also press the voice command button and say "display off" and that will do it too!

If you press and hold the talk button on the steering wheel, you activate Siri instead of the car's voice recognition system (iPhone only).

The engineering thought is that: via remote you could be not in visual contact with the car, and therefore could not sure whether someone is actually be in danger if the windows were to be raised up without supervision.

I wish i could have my car right now to verify also this fact...

This feature has been standard with other japanese and american cars for generations already... it's sad that BMW 3 series only got it now...
a bit late to the game...

Luxury Line only get Sport Mode, not the Sport + mode...

unless i have missed something...

I read thru the ENTIRE post...
, nice idea to create this post, even if you see the same thing posted very often.

1 thing I didn't see is the explanation why for some the 1-kick trunk opening works everytime (me now), why for some it works sometimes (me before), and why for other it doesn't work (me 1st).

There's another sensor for this system.
This one detect of you're too close of the lid, and it will disable the opening.

Saw on another post that it was to prevent people being hit by the cover if they were too close !

Now, that's brilliant

I know the position's a little weird and unnatural, but when you want to open the truck, lean back a little, should work anytime now.

There is also a button on the trunk itself to open it.

In another thread I learned the 1-8 buttons could be programmed as anything.

Anyone else find other interesting/neat things?
Here is my contribution. This is for your iphone.

1. Hold down the power switch at the top of your iphone. 2. Depress the round button on the lower middle face of the iphone.

You just took a picture of your screen. Anything on your iphone is now in your picture folder!

Try it! This is awesome!
That is old school!
In fact it is so old school, I almost though for a moment that you would somehow be able to take a screenshot of your idrive screen using the iphone

Don't know if this was mentioned in here or if this is known by everyone but me...but I just learned that there's a humidity sensor of some sort, which automatically turns on the AC compressor and tries to defog your windows. I hit a sudden downpour on a humid afternoon and the thing kicked in. This is with Auto mode turned off and AC set to off.

I don't actually like this feature. I prefer to have full control of the compressor.

I got a 2014 328ix and I don't have this feature. When the windshield fogs up, I need to manually hit the button or it stays fogged up.

Inadvertently held the unlock button down on the key fob today and the windows and sunroof opened before I got in the car. Very cool.
