Thumbs down Squeaky noise coming from dashboard..

I noticed that there is this squeaky noise coming from the middle of the dashboard, specially when I accelerate and even more when I change it to sport mode! It is very annoying for a 59k car! It's unacceptable.. is anyone having the same problem as me? I'm taking it in to the dealer as soon as I can for a fix!

oh no, not again! you are the 3rd person on this forum that has mentioned this rattling sound from the middle dash! I guess that is what happens when we get 1st year model cars.

Goddammit!!!!!! Does this mean I need to buy specialty tools to dismantle the dash and also need to invest in Dynamat?

please take it back to your dealer and give us a full report, i am sure you are not going to be the only one with this issue...if there is enough maybe this will be some kind of recall. i know, i know, i am jumping to conclusions.

I have a small rattle/tick whatever coming from the steering column, sometimes, at low speeds on a not so flat surface around town at 15mph/20mph and in comfort mode it happens more than in sport mode.

I'm going to get my dealer take a look at that asap, it's not annoying but it's there. Maybe a cable or something out of place?

Interesting.. there is quite a couple of guys having this rattle already.

Perhaps everyone should post their configs in a central topic so we can see what could be the cause, like a certain option or line perhaps?

Yep. Got it here too. Of course I just got out of a G37 that sounded like there was a construction zone inside the dashboard so I haven't been too bothered by it. Still, I'd love to know what you guys find out about it!

Maybe someone experiencing the rattle could pull out their iPhone and take a video of the rattle so we can see/hear it. This might help in the diagnosis.

I have this on my 1 week old car. It's booked in tomorrow at the dealer.

Mine is a rattle which seems to be from the air vents below the sat nab screen, it constant over any road surface... and bloody annoying for a £35 grand car

I also forgot to add I'm also getting a high pitch buzz from the air conditioning vents but once the car warms after 10 15 minutes the sound goes away. Not sure if this is related to the rattle but hopefully will be fixed tomorrow

This is one good reason to wait until the second year of a refresh cycle. (2013). Interested to see what your dealer says/how they address the issue. Keep us updated!

Anybody check for mice?

Just kidding (sorry, bad joke), but I sincerely hope this is just in a small production count. Perhaps stemming from where they were assembled?

I also found two posts very interesting. Someone posted the noise coming from
  1. behind the idrive (sat/nav) screen.
  2. from the b pillar (driver side)

I definitely like the idea of keeping tabs on configuration, options, model and assembly on the vehicles exhibiting this behavior.

Really, these could be easy fixes. I remember the inner housing to my rear driver's side door came out one day and I thought, wtf (did not notice it for a while since we usually don't have rear passengers). In any case, took it in and it was fixed at no cost courtesy of the "new car warranty."

I have the squeaky noise coming from the panel (aluminum trim) below the screen. I press hard on it to make it stop, but start again after some time. I got my car 2 weeks ago.

No worries man, you don't even have the car yet.

My 335i 6MT Sportline with adaptive suspension and sportssteering is feb '12 production (delivered feb 28th) and as I already mentioned I have a small rattle coming from the steering column.

The remedy is keeping the engine above 4000rpm so I don't hear it. LOL

My dealer is going to take a look this morning(I hope)

You're basically saying that your car has been made to go fast?

I got my car back from the dealer today and the rattle/squeaky noise has been rectified.

The problem stemmed from the display unit rubbing against it's housing, they took the display out and applied felt around the sides and re-housed it.

Drove it back home, 15 minutes journey and so far so good, silence, bliss.
