BMW order tracking is really pretty bad

The customer accessible order tracking systems are really quite poor. I know from talking to BMW and my dealer that my car is at VPC scheduled to get on a carrier today and to dealer on Friday. The automated phone system actually went backwards changing from "in transit" to "at port awaiting a shipping vessel". The web tracking system still reports "production ends". What's the point of having these systems available to customers if they have nothing to do with reality? While it's a nice luxury to be able to track our orders they should either have working systems that are up to date (shouldn't be hard in 2015) or just get rid of them and have you call dealer or BMW for updates. Just seems odd for a relatively tech savvy car manufacturer.

Be happy with what you have.

My friend just ordered a GLE350 and he said MB doesn't even have a tracking system for him.

Yes, you should be pleased BMW makes an effort at all.

I work for a competitor and as a dealer we don't know when cars will arrive.

Yeah as frustrating as the tracking was, it is better than so many other companies.

Good to know BMW is actually better than others. I've only leased BMWs for the last 7 years. Our 2nd family car (Subaru Outbacks and now a Pathfinder) has usually been off the lot.

I've said this before. I really hate all the games that go into car buying/leasing. I would love for the process to be just like buying off Amazon. No haggling and the price is the price. Of course that may lead to impulse car buying.

There are plenty of no haggle car dealerships. The prices are almost universally lower than MSRP and higher than most people can negotiate.

Buying a car and negotiating a fair price is far easier now than it ever has been. As buyers we have so much data available to us that as long as you are informed and have a little bit of tenacity to hold up under a bit of counter pressure you can get a good deal every time.

Yes this is all true. After 6 leases and all the internet resources available I've been able to get very good deals on cars except maybe the first or second time I did it. Some people truly enjoy the negotiating process, my father and father in law included. While I can get a good deal I don't enjoy it and would much rather it be a stress free simple process like buying off Amazon where the price advertised is it. You can choose another retailer if you find a better price but there is no negotiating involved and you are not wondering if you could have convinced Amazon or somewhere else to sell it to you cheaper. I know I may be in the minority but just the way I feel.

Costco buying service. Made ordering a BMW as easy as ordering Amazon. Got mine under invoice..took less than 5 mins. I'll take that over weeks and dozens of emails back and forth with dealers.

The tracking page won't find my vehicle using the VIN#. With the production # it says order documented even though the vehicle is supposed to reach Charlestown SC today.

Anyone else not able to add the vehicle to the "My BMW" page using the VIN#?

Other than tracking what other beneficial functionality is there on the My BMW page?

Thanks

Are you able to negotiate the COstco price? Or is that the final price?

Interesting service. Can you build your car to order or just select general options and they find a match?

I am lucky to have a good relationship with my CA. I get a large enough discount quoted the 1st time on an ordered car that it is hard to, in good faith, continue negotiating - it's usually that aggressive.

Costco is pretty easy. Once a member, you have access to their car buying service on the Internet. Just Pick a car, and they'll direct you to a BMW dealer that has agreed to their pre negotiated price - which in my case, was a few hundred under invoice (doesn't matter if special order or on the lot). This price may depend on region...since bmws are dime a dozen in Atlanta, I figured Costco negotiated a good price there.

within a day, you'll get a Costco price from this dealer via email. If you are lucky, your Dealer should already be under this program. If not, they should be able to match this quote.

Ofcourse you can always negotiate. In my case, the first offer was very close to what most people were paying so I was happy. Kinda defeats the pre-negotiated price model though if you want to keep haggling... I wasn't about to waste my time over a few more hundred dollars
