MY17 Maintenance Changes

All,

I cannot say how I heard this, but starting MY17, maintenance will be 3 years/36,000 miles and will no longer include pads and wipers.

Again, I will not reveal my source. But, I wanted to pass along the information.

Cheers,

Matt

I already changed my engine oil between maintenance plan oil changes so this is not a big deal to me.

15,000 mile OCI became 10,000 mile OCI.

I would be more comfortable with a 7,500 mile OCI.

Your "source" being other Bimmerpost threads, citing even other Bimmerpost threads, perhaps? Or even Bimmerfest threads???? Very top secret information....

Stop moving this info so people can see it. I rarely go to the general BMW discussion forum.

BimmerPost is adamant about moving threads as quickly as possible.

I really don't understand all the freaking out about this. It is not like it effects current owners or even people ordering cars right now.

When you go to buy your next car just make a buying decision based on all the factors including this one. It is not like you are forced to buy a BMW next time you need a new car.

Add to that, all of the "free" maintenance isn't actually free, and it's not worth a whole hell of a lot. A couple hundred bucks worth of oil changes and wiper blades shouldn't really be weighing very heavily in the decision to buy a $40k+ car for a rational buyer.

thats a problem if the price remains the same but you lose out on the maintenance benefits

It's only a problem if those few hundred dollars puts you over your budget when you are car shopping. Clearly, no one is going to like this change, but the butthurt that is going on over it is just beyond my comprehension.

I hate the removal of brake pads and rotors, but since the brakes usually aren't up for replacement until year 4, most drivers (lease), don't get to use it anyway. It's mostly the used car buyers who use it and BMW is letting them know that the "deal" they're getting by not buying new is starting to erode.

Warranties not being transferable was the first step to this.

Again, for those of us who get new cars regularly; won't be an issue. If you purchase and finance for 60 mo, there will be a sting, but there will be supplemental coverage for other parts like brakes, you'll just have to pay for it.

This will help force the hand of the used car buyer to purchase more warranties and coverage as well, which I have no problem with.

Free and reduced lunch is over!
