2014 328 Enhanced sound, retrofit?

Hi guys

With all the talk of 2014 328's having a better engine sound, is the consensus that it is coming through the radio? If so, has anybody checked if there is an extra module in the car that is making it possible? Would really like to see if it can be retrofitted.

good point its something they have in the M135i, M5 and I think the 335i? You can code the cell phones ring tone to come through on the radio may this is an option as well?

On the door frame, just near the handle there are 4 small buttons that go up and down. Gently press down on the top 2 buttons for less than a millisecond. This will enable a louder engine sound.

If it has enhanced exhaust soundtrack, it will have ASD (Active Sound Design) module in SVT.

I'm confused. The engine sound is artificial?

On new M cars it is, but not any non M car that I know of:

Active Sound Design.

"Behind this marketing term is a fairly simple idea. The new M5 reproduces the car's engine sound via the in-car audio system. In other word, if you're sitting inside the car you not only hear the engine coming from outside, but also an audio track of the engine based on throttle input, speed, and engine revs. As BMW puts it, this makes for better feedback as you hear exactly what the engine is doing. Another obvious benefit is that it allows to change the noise levels based on your driving behaviour as the reproduction by the audio system gets louder and more intense in Sport and Sport+ settings."

Is there a way to make sure 2014 F30 328i has ASD module? Maybe someone could post a pic of his SVT

I know it is in F10 M5, F80 M3, F82 M4, and the i8, but I have never seen it mentioned in any other chassis, nor have I seen an ASD module in any on the many F30 328i's and F10 528i's I have coded.

So I wonder why they say 2014 328i's sound better. There are quite a few conflicting stories in the forums.

Perhaps different exhaust components?

Looks like the mounting bracket but doesn't mention the ASD ecu.

I will see what exactly? Are they adding ASD modules to new non M cars now?

It could be the intake. It sounds like louder induction noise. I don't really know how to compare parts online, but if someone does, can they look up the part numbers for the intake components on the 2014? Might be a hardware retrofit to get the sound

That would be for Active Sound Design (ASD), which would require car has ASD ECU (///M Car).

I guess the real question would be could we retrofit this ECU and get it to work accordingly ....

Personally, I have no desire to have it, but for those that would, I don't see why it couldn't be retrofitted so long as their Amplifier supports it.

This is not for F30, but it should be similar.

The last f10lci 528 has no amplifier but it has the ASD. It works like an amplifier - all speakers' wiring harness goes through it.
I tried to change some things through coding but there was no big difference between native sound of 428 and M4 for example.
