Tire Insurance
Have any of you bought a certificate of repair for tires from discount tire? I decided not to get the tire and wheel insurance from the dealer. A certificate for all 4 OEM tires at discount tire will cost me $220 (about $50 per tire/certificate). The certificate indicates that the tires are repaired or replaced, but from what I know RFTs are usually not able to be repaired. Granted that in the event of one replacement you have to pay for a new certificate but it seems cheaper than the BMW insurance. I know it does not cover the wheel but it seems a lot cheaper. Are there any other tire places that sell certificates to repair or replace tires?

Discount tires is probably the cheapest. I bought the tire and wheel insurance from the dealer but then cancelled when I found out I had been ripped off. Totally not worth it.
$220 sounds pretty good to me. RTF they'd just put on a new tire so it's a good deal vs repairing. |

Can you buy the certificate if you didn't get the tires from Discount Tire? Or are you immediately planning to get swap your OEM tires or something?
Discount Tire is great at honoring their replacement policy. |

Bought some tires years ago from discount tire. Some punk put a nail in the sidewall in 1 of them. Discount tire replaced it no questions asked. I'd say its worth it from Discount Tire I think its like $30 per tire and up depending on brand/type. You also have to buy the tire from Discount tire.

The guy at discount tire told me i could get it from them even if I did not buy the tire from them. I saw on another post a member indicated he got a tire replacement certificate from a local shop but his was a bit cheaper. Can anyone confirm that is true?

I had a nail in my tire and took my car to Discount Tire. They fixed it for FREE, which was a big surprise to me. Apparently, they do free tire repairs. Their customer service is also awesome.
I asked the guy if a RFT was a lot harder to fix and he said NO. He did say that a RFT is just harder to work with, not necessarily to fix. |

Dealer tire insurance policy should include rim damage as well. Also allows you to take to dealer for repair. Your dealer should have a leverless tire mounting machine that won't mar the rims if the tech is properly trained how to use it.
Most retail tire shops still use tire mounting machines from the 1990s. The chain stores we have in South FL pretty much all have older tire changing machines that are not designed to be rim friendly when removing RFT low profile tires. You have to go to specialty shop here to find a good tire mounting machine and good road force balancer. Dealer is an easier choice. |

If you drive like a maniac then you will more likely be using the dealer package where you may need the wheel replaced. If you drive it like a regular car (most of the time) then maybe tire certs will suffice. I opted for tire certs. Wheel insurance is paying for peace of mind. Just like extended warranty.

I did the same. Paid for itself on the last car. Went thru 3 tires and 2 wheels and the dealer did it with a smile. Difficult parting with that cash up front but well worth it along the way.
