Anyone experiencing manufacturing delays?
Sorry, I posted this on my last thread but thought I'd start a new one in case others are experiencing manufacturing delays.
Having ordered my 330e M-Sport back in July and being given a 1st September delivery date, I was not too concerned. However, every fortnight or so since, the dealer has contacted me to say there are delays. Firstly it was the power plant as there was excessive demand worldwide on the hybrid units. Now I'm told they don't have enough aluminium trim! They are now saying mid-December, nearly 4 months late! Anyone else being fobbed off with delays to their orders? 2017 OR 2018?
I'd be furious if this is for a 2017; I'd cancel it and go 2018.

They tell me that it is the latest UK specified model - in the UK they are normally updated every July. So it it is effectively the one updated this year.
Nevertheless, I'm still pretty livid! They've told me today that it has been pushed out another week! They are blaming supply chain issues.... |

Mine was ordered custom at my dealer in Canada to my spec on October 29th, it has now been built and got shipped to the port for loading on the boat as of today. So I think they are jerking you around, or did not have a build slot.
Having said that it is an f36 and a different factory, so there could be some issue I am not aware of. I ordered brushed aluminum trim with gloss black highlight |

What plant is it being built in? What is the current status of the vehicle? If you call BMW they'll give you more updated info. vs. the web site.
FWIW, I ordered a 2017 on April29 of this year. It got on a boat in mid-June, but I didn't get it until August 28th! So it took 4 months for what was supposed to be a 6-8 week wait. My car literally wound up on the "slow boat to the Orient." I got my dealer to give me a loaner for the last month of waiting which was nice on their part since it wasn't their fault. |

My previous vehicle, 2013 335i xDrive, was built in SA. It took about 3.5 months for the vehicle to arrive in Oxnard, CA. The route was split into 2 segments: South Africa to Bremerhaven first, and then to the West Coast via Panama Canal.
My current vehicle, 2017 BMW 440i Gran Coupe, was built in Dingolfing, Germany. Temporary supply chain issues do occur from time to time. Sometime ago, Rosslyn plant was short on certain wheels. BMW works very hard to solve supply chain problems. It's in their best interests. |

Know idea what is going on!
I've contacted the UK Director of BMW who has put me in touch with someone who apologizes, but said they've pushed the date into January 2018 now (from a July 2017 order)!!! I will ask for a loaner but they seem quite clueless. It is my first BMW and quite frankly, I wasn't expecting this level of service. I thought BMW were a quite slick operation, but these dealings have left me feeling that they simply over promise and under deliver. You can't blame Elon Musk, he's fairly new to the game. BMW should have established supply chains. It doesn't bode well if you want a hybrid car. Has anyone else been having problems in the UK or Europe with deliveries, hybrid or otherwise? PS: I'm told it is being built in Germany. Last edited by myellow; 12-07-2017 at 10:26 AM.. |

I have a 2018 530e on order to replace my 2016 330e. I ordered it in mid October, my dealer had an allotment slot for early November. Construction finished at the Dingolfing plant on 11/9, reached Bremerhaven on 11/16 and left Bremerhaven on 11/19 and just passed through the Panama Canal.
The hybrid parts are pretty much the same so I think the excuse you were given is BS. This is especially true as BMWNA in the US is offering substantial incentives to move the hybrids. Also, my 530e has aluminum trim (although the aluminum trim on a 530e is different from the aluminum trim on a 330e). Do you have a production number.? I got mine the day I ordered the car. If they didn't give you a production number, my guess is that either they don't have an available allotment or they don't want to use it for you. If you do have an allotment number, call BMW Genius and see what they say. Give them your production number. |

Ive experience delays on the following so far: Model line changes (Introduction of shadow edition, which I jumped on) then another delay on M Sport lines, followed by a further delay on B58 engines and the latest one is a delay on extended leather dashboard. I originally ordered a 340i saloon on the 1st May 2017, when the delays came about in August on the M Sports I took the hit and changed my order to a 340i Touring, basically starting my order again so part my fault but the delivery isn't estimated until 11th Feb 2018. Still a long wait even if my original order was August! Id be as well waiting for the 18 plate in March for the sake of a couple of weeks!

There are manufacturing delays because sh*t happens. Unfortunately way to many of these "production delays" are because the selling dealer never had a build slot for the car.
If they can't give you a production number by the time you sign or shortly thereafter they have no slot, can't get the car built & can't promise a delivery time. You might want to ride it out or look for another dealer that has a build slot.

Well, it went into production last week and I've been told today it is built! It is now waiting to leave the factory for shipping to the UK. Early January is the date they give me.
Escalating this to Graeme Grieve (BMW UK Director) had no impact. I've sent an email to the Honest John at the Daily Telegraph to see if they'll look into it further. I work in Finance - if customer service was this bad, we'd simply have no business! I can't believe it seems so acceptable to BMW! SteveinArizona It seems you have far better levels of customer service in the US than we have in the UK. Hopefully, my shipping should be a little quicker as it shouldn't need to navigate the Panama Canal! With only a few more weeks to go, however frustrated I feel, it would be foolish to pull out now. That may sound like sour grapes but despite everything, I am really looking forward to the new car.... when it eventually arrives! |

No delays here
Ordered 2018 F32 on 11/30, and car was built this week and is awaiting shipping. Dealer did get one of the last December build slots available.

Significant delay on a 440GCxi. Ordered mid-Sept. 1st confirmed delivery date was WK50 (which is already really long, all previous BMWs < 6 weeks), last week changed to WK52, now "likely 2nd half of Jan". Reason given: too many people ordering Snapper Rocks Blue and the supply of this color is low...

My 440i GC ended up being 5 weeks late - reasons given: demand for B58 engine and supply problem with adaptive LED headlights
Here now, and worth the wait!

Back in early 2015, there was a shortage of Brembo M Sport brakes that delayed my 428i GC order a month or so... supply chain issues do impact orders more often than you think. I found lots of others have been impacted by M Sport brakes, leather dashes, colour, trim, etc.
But based on the car you've ordered, I'd say it's more likely your dealer didn't have the allocation slot for a 330e until a few months after you ordered and it's been compounded by shortages. I also had that issue with both the 428i GC I previously ordered and my current 340i order because they were both RWD orders. In Canada, RWD spec allocations are really limited - first one I ordered in September and had a production slot in December. The second one I ordered in October and got a production slot in December. If the dealer you ordered from is fairly small or doesn't have that many sales, they will not have an allocation slot for you right away as BMW limits how many a particular dealership can get. The dealer could swap with another dealer but if it's in demand, it's highly unlikely the other dealer would have any available either. I waited 4+ months for both my orders, both of which also included shipping delays (1+ for each but for different reasons). The waiting game sucks but when you get the car, it's that much sweeter But if you can't wait any longer, I'd recommend you cancel the order and go with something else.
