Color delimma :-/
I've ordered mineral grey, but I am now having second thoughts and really really liking the imperial blue. The thing is that mineral grey is a color that isn't on any existing BMW's in the US and without seeing it in person or video, I am very apprehensive about the decision. What complicates it further is the sport package that I have selected. How would the black trim (both, around the window and black side mirrors) look?

If you look around you can find some shots of the F20 1 series in mineral grey. I've seen a couple of the F30 as well, but none with sport line.
It's not a real-world photo, but here's BMW's rendered version of the US spec F30 in mineral grey with sport line. It at least gives you an idea what the black mirrors with grey paint will look like (not bad in my opinion) http://www.bmw.com/imageservice/imag...80&height=1024 You can change the angle in the URL above to spin around the car. |

It's going to look tits. I got mineral grey with sportline and i think its going to be a great color. Its almost like a carbon grey, its kind of dark but really nice.

I will probably not get red, because of my wife and two kids. Although it look awesome, I will feel like a douche by carting my family around in my red sports sedan. |

That imperial blue looks nice in photos, im just worried it would look a little to "pretty" in certain angles in light. But it does look nice from photos

I agree....too bad we're stuck with the sport line color scheme interior. This would look great with the saddle interior. Why BMW!! WHY?!? LOL

As far as the interior is concerned, I got black leather with aluminum dash board with a black-high-gloss strip across the dashboard. I think it should look good except the steering and seats have this obnoxious red highlights all over the place. One of the days I am going to go apeshit on this problem and use a sharpie to blacken all the highlights lol... |

Found some more 5 series pics in Imperial Blue. With 5 spoke rims, it looks stunning. Absolutely beautiful...notice that there is no ugly chrome trim around the windows. The black window trim makes a HUGE difference.

<SIGH> I'm with you. I have a 135i now with the red interior/aluminum trim. It's nice, but...I've been looking at it for 3 years. I was looking forward to something a little more understated...LOL.
Maybe BMW will make some last minute packaging changes. It seems to be the antithesis of what they've done with Mini...or even the X3 for that matter, in regards to order customization. |

Not to digress too much here, but don't be surprised if the 2014... possibly even 2013 MY F30 is more customizable. One theory is that since this is a global launch, BMW might be simplifying the option combinations in order to streamline their supply chain. Having the huge US market launch at the same time as the rest of the world is extremely stressful on not only BMW's production lines but those of their suppliers as well. So from that standpoint, the simpler the better, since they need to crank these things out as fast as they can.
In time, as the initial mad rush of demand settles, they can afford a bit more inefficiency in their processes, so more combinations of options/colors/trims might be possible. Then you might be able to get fineline wood trim on a sport line, or sport suspension on a luxury line. Not saying this has anything to do with reality, but it sure sounds good, doesn't it? |

Actually, that's a very good point. Sounds plausible to me...

IMO Imperial Blue beats anything else esthetically, mostly on a luxyry oriented configuration but not only. Now it depends if you want this noble and distinct looking (and very BMW) color or rather something with less charisma and more trivial but more practical dust-wise
Plus a blue Sport Line will probably be kind of rare compared to grey/white/black/red Last edited by advantage20; 12-09-2011 at 07:58 AM.. |

F30 M Sport US version in Imperial Blue . . . Please!
If you play around with the configurator URL, you can get some other useful views. I changed the "model" from 3A51 (Europe) to 3A53 (US) to show the US version of the M Sport front end. Note the unique yellow side reflectors (different than the other lines) and the license-plate mounting. The rear view will show a US license plate but otherwise appears to be the same.
http://www.bmw.com/imageservice/imag...80&height=1024 While I was playing around, I also changed the "color" to P0A89 (Imperial Blue). WOW! Wouldn't you like to see BMW offer the F30 M Sport in Imperial Blue, like they do for the F10 M Sport and M5? The M Sport version really needs at least one more DARK color that is not a neutral. Don't get me wrong, I love Sapphire Black and Mineral Gray, but the BMW dark blues are fantastic -- as shown by the Imperial Blue F10s posted previously in this thread. |
