I think BMW is being safe with the arrival date because the scheduled arrival date is the 28th, so 23 days instead of 27. Currently the ship is ahead of scheudle by 1 day, arriving in Spain on the 7th instead of the 8th.

My CA said port Charleston but this ship doesn't make a stop there. I wonder if they rail it up there to the VPC.
Do you have a PCD date yet? My CA continues to say they won't give me one until the car is off the ship at the port.

Don't have a date yet. I did PCD last year and I got my date as soon as my car was on a ship. It was nice because once I had my date locked in, I didn't feel the need to track the ship as much as it wouldn't affect when I take delivery. Booked a flight from Miami for like 70 bucks

For some reason with a South Africa build, they won't give you a date until the car arrives at port. Apparently they have more delays but our ship seems to be ahead of scheudle. I was told this after speaking with PCD over the phone and email.

Rachel at PCD said it's normally 2 1/2 weeks after arriving at port, but that kind of makes it hard to book a flight with only 2 1/2 weeks notice.

Got another update, it seems that the best ETA they can give right now is 3 weeks after it arrives at port. Rachel is saying 5/14 is when it arrives but I think shes confused, it shows 5/4 according to my CA.

Again I don't see our ship ever arriving to port Charleston but who knows. I'm thinking well be doing PCD the week of May 23rd. Best case maybe the week before that.

What I do know is that I've saved $1000 by waiting because of April residuals, possibly $2000 if the loyalty credit is available when I sign.

Good point on the $$$ savings.

Can you give me Rachel's email address so I can reach out to her as well?

Thx

Seems to be just a generic email, not her direct email

Since mine finished SA build on 3/23 and is still at the port, maybe we'll be on the same boat - I'm also doing PCD.

Driving me crazy - no new info in over a week!

Question - when you all refer to 'speaking with a genius,' is that the same as calling the 800 tracking number and asking to speak to a representative? Or is there a different 'Genius' number?

I could use some info - I think I've hit 2 weeks now 'waiting at the port for a shipping vessel,' and I'm losing my mind. Especially if my ship has to make stops on the way to Charleston.

Thanks in advance!

There's a different number for BMW genius, I don't know it off the top of my head. They seem to basically have the same info. Generally you won't know what ship your on until it's been about week after it departed.

If your car finished production on the 23rd, it would have arrived at the port on like April 1st or so. Seems the average wait time at port is 2-3 weeks.

Serenity ace left on the 23rd, very unlikely you made it on there. You should expect to do PCD sometime in June

Agree that i'm not on Serenity Ace, otherwise, I would have been notified with everyone else. Called the regular hotline again this morning - no new info, other than, 'your car is probably waiting for them to have enough cars at port to fill up a ship.'

So since BMW can't tell me anything, I guess my best case math feels like this: March 23rd a ship left without my car, and it's been 2 weeks.

April 9: Lets assume another ship leaves end of this week with my car, and 2.5 weeks to Charleston.
April 28: Ship arrives in Charleston, followed by 2.5 weeks from VPC to PDC per your email from Rachel
May 17: First day I could reasonably expect to go to PDC, assuming there are no bottlenecks on the PDC side.

Don't know about days on the boat? I've heard everything from 2 weeks to 6 weeks, if they make more stops.

OMG this is killing me - I'm not mentally equipped for a combination of unknowns and long wait times.

MORE INFO: http://www.sea-distances.org/
Says that Durban, SA to Charleston, SC is 7601 Nautical Miles via Cape of Good Hope.
Google says that the average freighter speed is 20 knots in nominal weather (17 in bad, 26 in good)
This works out to a cruising time of 15 days, 20 hrs.

Which means i should be good with 2 1/2 weeks shipping time unless there are a) more stops, or b) delays at ports, weather, etc

Website is down but here is the link to the ship schedules.

Put Durban as the "POD". Then click on the "Load Voyage" number.

Look for any ship that lands on the East Coast. Even if they don't stop in Charleston, it can be unloaded at another port and then transported to where it needs to go.

I feel like a "Tracking Guide for South Africa Builds" should be made but I don't have the time or focus to make it lol

As you can see Serenity ace never stop in Charleston.

UPDATE
I received a response from Rachel ...... it was almost identical to your.

Diff question - I asked if i could add other PIA (the MPE) to my order since it is not hitting the port for at least 3 weeks ..... Rachael had no direction and my CA says it's too late - that sound right? I know i would still wpork through my dealership on price/payment but I would think i could still at PIA items.

I think you can add it as long as it isn't at the port. I saw people hoping MPPK was available before they hit port. Call a BMW genius.

Should start a thread dedicated to who is on our ship in this forum and try to connect at/after delivery at PDC ? Just a random thought. I am flying down from NY for delivery once delivery date is issued.

I'm guessing I'm going to be on Martorell. My car just went 182 in SA. Looks like the next ship to leave Durban bound for NA or Europe will depart on 4/17. Arrives in Brunswick GA on 5/12. I'm doing PCD so I'm guessing that is where she will get off the ship.

So my CA wrote to say that my car is on the Prime Ace 0018A out of Durban. Just checked the website (http://www.molroro.com/MOLVesselSchedule.aspx) and found that it's not even scheduled past Bremerhaven (est arrival May 5th) yet. Not sure if that means my car will get unloaded/reloaded there or if they only schedule out so far.

At any rate, no way my car gets to PDC in May if it has to stop in Bremerhaven and all the usual ports of call along the way.

Looks like most of these 'Ace' ships do the same milk run up the West African coast on the way to Germany:
Durban
East London
Port Elizabeth
Vigo
Zeebrugge
Emden
Bremerhaven

Thanks again to all for helping me track this much. The BMW tracking tool leaves MUCH to be desired.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe your car is going to Germany then getting off. It then has to wait for another boat that's going to the US.

Yeah - that's kind of my fear, as well. Which sucks because that means by the time I get this car, the dealers will be selling MY2017 cars...

Nothing like buying a 1 year old model at current year prices....

Looks like the ship is still on time. Should be arriving in Germany tomorrow, then Bremerhaven on the 13th. Finally departing on the 14th towards the US. Haven't seen more than a 1-2 days delay in the trans Atlantic crossing, it also helps that we don't have many ports after Germany.

Bremerhaven is pretty busy so hopefully no delays. She should arrive late April into the port we want.
