The Best Thing About Having the Winter Tires Installed is

... having the reassurance that you've done everything possible to cope with the hazards of freezing rain, snow and black ice.

It does help if the winter package doesn't look terrible. But, the main benefit is knowing that a half inch of wet snow won't send you sliding into a curb on those 10-inch wide 35-series summer performance tires.

Driving may get a bit scary on some days in January or February, but at least you'll have the best handling and braking performance that technology can provide.

BBS SR wheels -- designed for winter. Pressure cast; spokes feel very sturdy.
Continental 830P runflat tires. Seem to be rated highly in Europe. (850P not yet available in North America)

I picked up studded 18x245x40s and the control they give you stopping, starting and turning is well worth it. I live up north where the first snow that falls is here as ice for all of winter, and while you can get away with studless tires, especially if you have a heavy vehicle, it's worth it to have the most control to avoid accidents and other people. Plus, winter tires allow you to have all-the-more aggressive summer tires and spread the tread wear between the two.

Garage List
2016 BMW 340i  [9.00]
I'll mount my SR late in the month or early Dec once the 340i is here.

Does the OEM BMW center cap fit the SR?

Agreed, once the winters are on there are no worries about the weather forecast. I put mine on about 2 weeks ago (in my case Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 on style 162 rep wheels) and am patiently waiting that first snowfall

Sorry, I don't know. The wheels come with a reasonably tasteful 'BBS' cap, so I'm happy enough to stick with that

BBS 18 in. SR Wheels for Winter

Thanks.

I am very impressed with the apparent strength of the BBS wheel spokes (pressure cast). They are extremely solid -- quite a different feel compared to some of the cheaper 'BMW replica' wheels at the performance wheel dealer.

An 'over-engineered' German product? (i.e. not in the VW tradition)

The image shows why this particular BBS wheel works with the large MSport brake calipers. The spokes are slightly convex-outward, leaving clearance.

That's a negative, Ghost Rider.
