335 2012 Vss?
I must have the last of the 2012 builds which is going into production soon but I still have time to add VSS to the order. I will have sport line without the adaptive suspension and need to know if I should add the VSS. From the posts it is still unclear what VSS really does. Looking for the less electronic feel with sharper handling. I don't need something to make the steering wheel easy to turn. Is VSS with a sport line a must have for a 335i and does it add the sport plus feature? Please let me know!!!

Get the vss if you prefer sharper feel and less electronic feel to the steering! I tested both back to back & a dealer owner and a few CAs that were at the launch events also said its mandatory. Get it and don't think twice!

In sport mode you get a much stiffer feel.
I thought cars built in July was 2013

I drove both also. For me it was no brainer to get the VSS (though I admit that the 2013 line change making VSS and the M-Adapt. Susp. a package made the decision all that much easier).
As for MY12 vs. MY13, I am wondering if that varies by dealer and what "allocations" they had. I originally tried to order an MY12 sport line in mid-May and was told by my CA that BMW was not taking any more MY12 orders a week after providing a deposit. In the mean time, I learned about the July changes and I did not ask any questions as I was more than happy to just spec an M-Sport instead. I was informed last Friday that the car is being built right now. Others have reported that their MY13s started production last week as well.

I placed my order End of May Status 112 SA build with a 2012 production number. I think 12's are still being built in SA until July 15th. I will try and confirm tomorrow. Thanks for your comments on the VSS. I was happy with a 12 because I am going sportline not the M package.

Anyway, this is exactly what I did. I added 2VL at the last moment to a ZSL car without also adding the adaptive suspension. There's lots of discussion about what the different suspensions really are. I didn't want the adaptive suspension because of added complexity -- my car is already loaded with things that will cost a bundle to repair if I keep it beyond warranty; I didn't want yet another. BTW, my completed car's build sheet contains this feature, which comes automatically with US-spec ZSL cars: S704A M SPORTFAHRWERK This is the "M sport suspension." In MY13, you cannot get 2VL without the adaptive suspension, so I really like that I was able to get the variable steering and the less-complex suspension. |
