Errr...I just got my warranty extended to 100,000, should I take it?

So as some of you may know on the boards, I bought a lightly used "Demo" 2012 this year.

There was a hiccup with BMWNA in registering my warranty (they just caught it, probably because I sent an email to BMWNA about my rusty seat), and my dealer, because they forgot to do this, just called to offer me 2 options:

1. Extend the warranty to 5 years/100,000 through BMWNA (Platinum package, in effect after 50,000, with a $50 deductible).

OR

2. Dealership specific warranty to cover ALL expenses for an additional 3 months.

I'm tempted for #1 because I drive 22k miles a year. thoughts?

Why go for the extra year if you drive 22k annually? You'll burn the mileage before you burn the time.

Answer to your initial post - option 1.

Yeah, that's my original thought. Then I started thinking about where I'll be in 5 years, and realized there is a 100% chance I won't be at this job with the daily, 105 mile commute (which I've been doing for 4 years in April, 2013).

Which got me thinking about the next job, the next commute, and I'm trying to "hedge" against running out of time (5 versus 6) or mileage.

I'm pleasantly surprised that they are offering the platinum protection free of charge for the 5 years.

Seems like all of you are with my wife on the 5 year 100k.

Others?

I have until tmrw. to decide. Thx guys!

Why? Their goodwill has an expiration date on it? That's bunk.

I don't understand the original warranty issue. For a demo, BMW provides the same 4yr/50K warranty. Demo's will have a start mileage beginning with the mileage the car was delivered. So if you got the car with 1,000 miles on it, your warranty is good for 4yrs from delivery or 51,000 miles.

Whats with this extended warranty they want to give you for free?

They FORGOT to register the car...the only reason this came up was because I sent an email to BMWNA with my VIN for the rusty seat claim, and within 24 hours, they called me back.

Their screw up...I guess paid off?

Definitely take option 1, the warranty goes with the car so if you sell it while you still have warranty, you've just increased your car's value.

You can mail them a letter about the rusty seat? My base line is almost fully loaded minus fold down seats and cameras, parks itself has no problems performs well on the track and has no rusty seat. Id be pissed if i had an msport or sportline and had problems. I feel bad for guys with problematic cars.

LOL, I was chuckling reading all those replies posted today. Looks like imalpo didn't realize that the thread is years old before resurrecting it.
