I've had several manuals through the years... absolutly love them.
But the technolgy, shifting speed, and just having 8 gears sounded pretty cool. Still have the 6MT M3 to get my fix.

There is no denying now that the 8AT is among the best auto transmission out there !
But back when i made the purchase for my F30, i couldn't test it, therefore i went the safe route and made the safe bet of getting the Manual. Nothing wrong with the Manual, as reliable as always...

You sir, have it made! Nice setup you have. Take it back, perfect setup! (I'm really hoping this does not turn into a manual VS auto thread). |

I was born in Brazil, we dont have auto there, here in the US I have a beater 06 mazda sport manual, but my Bimma had to be auto with paddle shifters as I can do other things while Im driving, like a nice girl leg, or play with idrive or hold my delicious cup of coffee, or scratch may balls, and the list goes on and on...
Manual are ok for those who did not grow up only driving them. FYI - the worst manual car I ever drove was a brand new 2010 corvette, that manual transmission stinks big time

I went from a 2011 E92 335i 6MT to a 2013 F30 328i with the sport 8AT. No regrets, the new 8AT sure is an impressive transmission and suits me perfectly for my daily commute.
I do however have an E24 and an E30 for summer fun, and both are 5MT to satisfy my manual transmission needs lol. It would have been a much tougher decision to switch from MT to AT for my daily driver if I didn't have these cars. |

but you do have your fair share of 3 series i can see... The E21 was the first that made me fall in love with BMW... I grew up in one or two, and when my dad upgraded to the E30, that one nailed it It was then a series of E30s we went through.

Biggest mistake I made with my F30 was going to the 8AT. Even w/ the Sport Auto I am disappointed. Is the 8AT a great automatic? Sure, but to me, autos are supremely boring. As soon as the the 428i CG is available, I'm looking to switch back to a 6MT.

8AT on the new F30, wife's 2011 128i M-Sport convertible is 6MT with Perf Exhaust - "a BMW for everyone".

Very interesting poll. 2/3 are currently auto. You could take it a step further and see who's in the States vs. ex-US

Our E60 was an MT as were most of our cars. When I bought the E60 I thought anyone with an AT just didn't have a clue, mostly because of sluggish shifting in ATs and power lost from torque converters. With the ZF 8spd sport automatic the shifts are phenomenal. If I want more control, the paddles work fine. I love the AT and don't regret the decision to purchase it.
