Engine Light --> Software Upgrade?
So my car had a check engine light over the weekend and I brought it in to service.
The SA told me that there wasn't any parts that needed to be replaced - just some software upgrade that needs to be done and its taking a few hours. Sounds kinda odd to me that a software upgrade would take this long.... |

1) there isnt a BMW mechanic on call waiting for you to drop your car and to work immediately on it.... There is some work orders.... Etc.
2) seem kinda fishy that an engine light would light up for a software update... If you had an OBD to read the code.... It would have told you exactly what was wrong with the engine. It could be that your dealer turned off the notification and .... Who knows.... Hard to trust if you ask me. |

^ This is factual...takes over an hour sometimes and there may be other cars ahead of yours.

This is why I make a good relationship with my SA. They always give me the no BS assessment.

But to be honest, it sounded like she didn't know what she was talking about. She was shuffling through paper work trying to find the root cause the technician wrote in the paper work. Not very professional if you ask me. |

I would tend to agree with you - an SA should know that there's no such thing as a "secondary intercooler" as opposed to a "secondary coolant radiator".

I like to test out how well sales people know their product - I'd ask how many cylinders the 328i have vs the 335i, which one has turbo?, what is M-Sport? Best answer was, the m-sport package gives you more horsepower |

Geez...that's pretty sad. I hope I never run into that kind of SA or CA - so far, all the ones I've dealt with are very well-informed about their employer's product line. In fact, almost all of them have been to various "classes" and driving events specifically to familiarize them with the various models and features. I'd guess that there are those who just don't pay attention in class.
