Typically we go to Mexico or some other tropical place every year for vacation, however this time we decided to mix it up. I've always wanted to go to some kind of ski resort. Now, neither of us have ever skied soooo I'm not looking for a place with epic slopes or anything like that. More interested in the actual resort and local area but would like to "attempt" some skiing.

We plan to go in Nov or Dec before xmas and would prefer to stay as close to FL as possible (not sure how far north we need to go before you start getting good snow). Do they even have snow that early in the year? Any recommendations would be appreciated it. Thanks

Telluride would be my 1st choice, Steamboat #2, Tahoe (Heavenly)#3.

Telluride has a great old town, where you can rent an old house, or the condo side, mostly newer units. Great restaurants. Great place for newbies. Make sure you eat at Allreds and Brown Dog pizza.

Steamboat also has a great old town and newer part.

Tahoe....gamble and ski......good times!

You'll have to either go way north or head towards the rockies to get good snow and skiing in November/December.

Steamboat is always nice. Vail, Aspen as well.

Just visited Turks & Caicos. Best Caribbean spot ever from places I've been to around there.

Don't come up north for ski resorts go west. I mostly go up to Vermont but it's brutally cold. Default spot in Killington.
If you want snow go out west OP. Was at lake Tahoe last year(we hit up heavenly, squaw valley, Kirkwood) and it was epic.

I suggest heading out west to get quality powder and a great first experience. I personally would not recommend anything on the east coast. Breckenridge, Vail, Tahoe, and Aspen would be my short list.

Yeah I thought about Tahoe, we were there in the summer a few years ago and it was awesome. Wasn't sure if there would be any snow closer to home at that time, apparently not.

Beech Mountain, NC would be closest option to FL. Although the snow is not the greatest, it should suffice for beginners.

Vail/Edwards/Beaver Creek, CO is a great option so is Park City, UT.

Closest you'll get in the north would be mountain creek resort in NJ. They have a small mountain, with a nice resort. They have a spa area with indoor heated pool/Jacuzzi which are nice.

If you don't feel like traveling far head to the Blue Ridge Mountains in western NC. I plan on making a couple trips to snowboard out that way this year since I haven't gotten the chance to the previous two years of being here.

Yeah it usually does later Dec through Feb. Not that pow pow in the West but should be decent enough for what OP is looking for.
