i just got my 3rd one 2 weeks ago.
1st time: Fan replace 2nd time: DME update (steering feel improved along with other stuff) 5 months later: 3rd time. Did not bother to bring it in this time. So it is confirmed that the latest software update fixed many things but not the limp mode. |

Just to throw in my 2 cents;
335xi msport 6mt built July 2013 SA Haven't experienced any sort of limpid yet (crossing fingers) in my 8K miles with the car, and I definitely haven't been driving it like a granny (averaging under 17mpg since delivery) |

I've had this happen to me a few times. Classic symptoms. High fan noise, loss of power, no revs above 3k. Went to dealer and of course no codes. I realized it would happen when I would change driving modes. Going from comfort to sport and back to comfort. Or from comfort to Eco. Eco to sport. Any variation of multiple changes (more than 1) and it would always trigger a limp mode. Ever since then I only switch to sport as soon as the car is on or just leave on comfort. Ever since I stopped switching while Driving the issues have stopped. Can't confirm if this is a "fix" but seems to have worked for the pastn4-6 months

Been at least 6-7 months since limp mode. Had a bad cylinder about 3 months ago that crippled any power in the car I was able to drive about 40 mph to the dealer. They replaced the cylinder and flashed me. As for the limp mode never brought it in for that. Talked to an old friend who has been leasing bmws for years and he was aware of limp mode and told me to just leave the AC button on all the time, since then which was 6-7 months ago I have not had limp mode. And I wanted to really test that theory so a week or 2 after he told me this I drove for about 30 mins with the AC on about 3 bars on, I decided to shut the AC off, and it was about 90 seconds after I turned it off, car went limp and temp gauge rose. So ever since I leave the AC on all the time at least 2-3 bars.

Dropped the car off this morning
So after about 5-6 limp mode incidents since getting the latest software (6/14), I dropped the car off this morning with the dealer. The dealer said they would open an engineering case with BMW since "they can see more information in the logs than the dealer can". ( I forgot the term that he used)
I have been lucky with all the limp mode incidents happening while at stop lights or in light traffic but one of these days it is going to happen when I need the power and I feel it won't end well for me or the car. I'll keep you posted when I get the car back. |

Just adding a tally to the limp mode side. Happened a few times in the past couple of weeks. Symptoms are high aux fan, no power...feels like the car is stuck in 8th gear and is very jerky. Pull over and restart car and it goes away.

Just had one today. First time in over a year. Down shifted a bit too early and when there was no rev match I instantly knew what was up. Pulled over real quick and could hear my fan roaring. Off/on and back to normal

Just picked up a 2013 M sport 335i CPO and Im quickly learning about this damn fan issue! This is not fun. Id rather have my 2012 335i sport. SO is there a permanent fix? I see this thread is about dead for quite some time..

I've experienced limp mode on a Non-M Sport 435i X-Drive. Just saying it's not limited to M Sport lines.

I've experienced my first limp mode and it is definitely not fun. Thought my car was dying on me, and it was terribly bad since there's no signs or lights indicating anything. Oh well, I go in for service this weekend anyways, so I'll have them document it.

Is this limp mode fixed or no? Anyone experience the same on 2014 335i models? I'm looking into a CPO 2013. But if 2014 model are fine, I prefer to wait till next year for price to drop a little bit. $35k price range.

Any update on this issue or fixes that have been proven to continue working?
2013 335i xDrive M sport here.. I have had limp mode generally happen when driving at slow speeds. I have been staying at Sport+ mode hoping that the other modes are what have been causing this. |
