Happened this morning on my 6/13 SA build. Oil temp was good, acceleration had been good. Switched on air and felt like throttle was in Eco Mode.

No fan noise, but the oil temp did drop rather quickly. Shut off air, and it seemed to go away, but later returned. I didn't shut off engine as I was only a couple blocks from work.

I'm only a tad over 3k miles. I guess if it happens again, I'll bring it in to document the issue.

Hope BMW sorts this out soon.

Have there been any reports of limp mode with non-msport 335i's?

Additionally, it's not an "issue," it's an annoyance.

I will be picking up my 2014 msport in a few weeks. My 2013 never limped and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the 2014 is free of limp mode.

Me too in about a month. Hopefully we're both lucky.

Mine has had the classic "limp mode" twice. Once at less than 1000 miles stock. Now another one after 5000 miles of the installation of the MPPK. Both incidents were similar, but this last time the fan noise would roar intermittently rather than constant. Both times my oil temp gauge would register about 200 degrees F.

Although tuning off the engine cleared the problem, I brought it to the dealer anyway to check it out and document the problem. My car is being kept over the weekend by the dealer who is in contact with BMW about the issue.

The first time, the dealer replaced my cooling fan 1-17-42-7-640-513 fan housing with fan: 171030. Fault 1A2108.

Just got car back from dealer. There is a bulletin on this. SIB 12 25 13. Calls for replacing fan (same p/n) but also to reprogram car. So, I'm guessing they fixed a software bug?? We shall see...

On my old car they did a replacement of fan and software as well. Still went Limpy later.

Maybe someone can verify if this is a newer fix than the one I got in 2013.

Just did it once at 7k miles. I was driving off the highway ramp, was gonna take a Texas U-Turn and the road was wet (guess what I was gonna do), so I put it on sport + and turn off DTC + DSC. Floor it, then the engine goes limp. Turn off and on back to normal.

Stock engine. Had my cooling fan replaced at 150 miles. Did it just once since I picked up the car. Hopefully won't do it again. 6/2013 production.

Luckily I was alone so I didn't embarrass myself to anyone

This really tempers my excitement for my car to get here.

Can't imagine having to lemon it over something like this. How has this not been resolved yet?

Software is continuously evolving. My car was last reprogrammed in December. Some modules required newer updates and those were installed yesterday. Hopeful BMWAG figured out the cause of the fan faults.

Is the newest software a fix for limp mode?

Had my second limp mode (Loud fan noise, couldn't go above 2500 RPM in any gear) on my 2013 335i m sport 6-MT last Friday 6/20/14. (Loud fan noise, couldn't go above 2500 RPM in any gear) I took the car in for service yesterday and they can’t find anything wrong and seemed to not have any knowledge of this issue despite it being plastered all over the forums. They did update the software to the latest and greatest version but is that enough to fix this issue? As with my 2008 335 and the HPFP issue, I have lost all confidence in my car and the ability to drive my kid around safely. For the people that received a bigger fan, how did the dealer diagnose the issue? Was there a fault code? Were you able to bring in the car while it was in limp mode?

Sorry to hear people are still having limp modes. I've been lucky since getting the MPPK software. I haven't had limp mode since. We'll see after this hot California summer.

Once again....

Anyone else still having this issue? I had it happen again 2 months after the latest software upgrade. A restart of the engine fixed the issue but but not before pissing off a few people behind me and an embarrassing limp to the closest parking lot.

I've had my 2014 M-Sport w/Sport Auto since April with 1670 miles on it and no limp mode yet.

Hopefully it never happens. Maybe since the MPPK has different software I'll be good to go.
