F30 harmon kardon vs e90 logic 7

How is the new top hifi compared to the old one? Couldn't find any threads on the subject . Also e90 hifi vs f30 hifi. I really don't prefer adding a sub to f30 hifi when I get it . How is the bass in the f30 hk too hifi? Thanks guys!

Why would you not want to add a sub? (Just curious)
I'll let others answer your question for now, as I have yet to pick up my f30 with HK - though I'll add my old sub in the boot.

I am curious though, if anyone knows what DAC (digital to analog converter) is used in the current F30?

Dealership says adding a sub will void warranty

Logic7 is HK. The F3x system is basically the same as the E9x system with whatever improvements have come with time.

I think it plays fairly okay, HUGE upgrade from my last car. Adding a sub will only make the car sound more rattly from outside

Not trying to argue, but do you have any proof of this? I would be very surprised if this is the case. I like the HK system, but "feel" that the Logic 7 in my e90 was better. Not by a lot, but at least a noticeable margin.

From what i understand, Logic 7 is only software boost, like Beats audio with HTC phone. HK is a complete hardware upgrade. Logic 7 is integrated with HK system.

Maybe you have Logic 7 disabled in the sound settings?

I love the HK sound in my 4er. Low end bass isn't great but I'll live. Still one of the best car systems I've ever heard.

The HK in my 4 is twice as good as the HK in my C300 (both Logic7). It has more clarity because of the extra tweeters/midrange. It's also much louder. on full blast, I can't hear myself yell. I love the system. It could use more thunerous bass, but what factory system couldn't?

This is my 3rd "3-Series coupe" so I have had experience with the systems over the years.

2008 335 coupe with Logic7 system
  • Solid bass
  • Lacking high-end
  • Mediocre mids

2011 335 coupe with HK (Logic7)
  • Improved bass
  • Mediocre bass
  • Mediocre mids

2014 435 with HK (Logic7)
  • Bass feels "cleaner" and more subdued
  • High-end is much improved
  • Mediocre mids

I would actually have to give my 2011 the best rating when it comes to speakers but I do like the fact that the 2014 HK system does have a much more solid high-end which adds more character to the music. Bass is more balanced as well in the 2014 but I feel like some of the lows in the 2014 are inconsistent across the different Hz.

Okay, so everyone who has the upgraded sound system, what sort of music do you listen to? I am sure that makes a difference in the sound and what sounds better... I mostly listen to hard rock/metal and never thought that upgrading my sound system was a necessity... now I am adding it and hoping it pays off!

Do you leave the factory settings alone in yours or do you tinker with the EQ?

In a noisy environment, what frequency are you trying to hit? 50, 40, 30 or even 20hz? What's the point? Who is the dumbass?

I do tinker with the EQ settings to a great extent. It seems like I have to put the bass up much higher in the 2014 compared to the 2011 to achieve a similar sound space. I wonder if part of this is due to the F32 cabin being a much more open environment compared to the E92 which seemed much smaller.

There is no doubt some of the bottom low-end is diminished compared to the E92 HK system.

I am excited to get mine and see how it is compared to the normal sound system in the BMW. I was told that all BMW sound systems (even the base one) are HK-based sound systems. I will likewise play around with the EQ to see how different I can get it sounding based on the music I listen to - I would think that plays a huge role in how the system is configured.

Both Top HiFi systems (F30 and E90) have Logic7 DSP. Difference is in the number of speakers (max F30 = 16, E90 = 13) and power output (F30 = 600W max, E90 = 480W max).

You need to take your favorite music and play it in an actual car to experience the system for yourself. Only you can determine if you would like it or not.

Hmmm. A lot to think about. If the f30 hifi had an equalizer is be more willing to keep the standard hifi

What would a recommended EQ setting be for hip hop/R&B?

I do not recommend EQ settings... they are useless. Again, what sound great to me does not necesarily would sound great to you. And viceversa.

yeah each individual should customize his/her EQ for his/her taste. Forget about trying to accomplish a flat response curve in a car, it's a useless and never ending exercise imo.

I do feel that in stock settings, F30 HiFi system sounds colder and more analytical than E90. I had to dial down trebble couple notches and boost bass couple notches. Otherwise too much "tsss" for my taste.
