Do 245/45/19's fit the front tire?
Dumb Question because I cant find this anywhere using search...
Can the F34 GT fit 235 or 245 width tires without requiring spacers or anything else? I found a set of 245/45/19's that I want to use for the winter. Good price too!! What do you guys think? Thanks folks Last edited by Crashnbrn5; 10-07-2015 at 01:44 PM.. |

This link is a useful tool for comparing tyre sizes:
http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp If you compare the sizes for your front wheels (which is where the biggest difference is) it will report as follows: Suspension clearance: Package 2 (your new winter tyre) is 10 mm (0.4'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars. Fenders clearance: Package 2 will stick out 10 mm (0.4'') farther. Acceptable for most cars. Wheelwells clearance: Will fill out the wheelwell by extra 9 mm. Acceptable for most cars. SPEEDOMETER: When speedometer reads 60mph (96.6km/h) actual speed will be 61.6mph (99.2km/h): 2.7% faster. The speedo difference is because you are putting on tyres that are 18mm larger in diameter so be aware if you run very tight to any tolerance on speed limits! You would be best to get advice from a tyre fitter just to be sure there is adequate clearance from the suspension/internal bodywork on the front wheels - but I'd be surprised if it wasn't OK. On the rear you'll have slightly less tyre protecting your rims from kerbing but aside from that there wouldn't be any issues at all as there is plenty of room to accept a taller, slightly narrower tyre. You should probably also notify your insurer as you are modifying your car from BMW spec. As for my opinion - if it was me I'd just get the correct size tyres - but that is just my view... |

It doesn't know for sure - hence it says 'acceptable for most cars' and my suggestion that you pop to a tyre shop to get it checked out for sure - the tool just assumes there will be some tolerance to accept the nominal change you are looking at. I assume you haven't altered the suspension from standard and that you are probably on xDrive which gives a little more clearance anyway... You can put your wheels on full lock and check how much clearance you have from the suspension parts and from your wheel wells - the tool tells you what additional clearance you will need... Obviously you can't tell the affect on clearances when you are at full lock and full suspension travel - that's why you need some expert advice - but in theory it looks to be OK...
I should also add that I've assumed you are talking about putting these tyres on your current rims and they are the standard 19" 8J & 9J rims for 225/45 & 255/40 mixed tyres... Last edited by lethbridge; 10-09-2015 at 11:27 AM.. |
