AFE Intake

Has anyone installed this intake?

What's your take on it? Dyno numbers?

Looking for as much info as possible on the AFE Intake and pics too...

I'd hold off a bit longer to see what BMS comes out with. Supposedly, it's any day now. The AFE looks to be a solid unit though but the performance gains seem to be minimal. I saw the dynos somewhere and it was something around 10whp peak if I recall correctly. Of course no one should expect a bang for your buck when it comes to intakes. I think they're pretty pricy too (near $500).

With that said, the stock intake is really good and the aftermarket has been having trouble producing one that is a worthwhile upgrade which is why we seem to have such limited options.

Here is a thread from when it first came out,

The AFE intake for the 335i is a solid piece. High quality composite construction, and it looks good to boot.

AFE does claim 11hp & 15lbs of torque, but you have to look at their dyno chart as those are across the rev range and not at peak. All in all if you look though, there aren't really any losses under the curve when installing their F30 335i intake, but independent Dynos are always great to see!

Nice points! Thanks!

Everything is so much more expensive in Canada. It's $580 here and anywhere around $50-$100 for install. LOL

I want the intake because I'm looking at every single whp gain I can get out of the car. Plus I like the sound and wouldn't mind the added fuel savings (extremely minute I know!).

At this moment I have the Meisterschaft exhaust and a challenge HFC DP. I wanted to add a JB4 Stage 2 and the AFE/Injen intake. I'm hoping at pushing 370whp with the combination of all...

Just debating whether I should go with Injen or the AFE. Both of them have a heat shield but the AFE is the more expensive one.

Not sure...

Well the install could not be any simpler so you could avoid that cost at least. They have a video on youtube showing how to do it and takes a total of 15 minutes if that.

Like others have mentioned, it's the E9x version not the F30. With that said, BMS has said early on that they're targeting about the same price when they do release the F30 intake. It's marketing, others charge more because there isn't much competition and well, they can. The price will come down as more competition comes along, I think the AFE intake has already come down $100 since released.

You'll be shy of 370whp unfortunately, probably closer to 355whp if I had to guess. But... if you purchased the flex fuel wires and used stage 2 of the JB4 in map 7 with a E85 mix of 50% you'd most likely hit 370whp (without an intake)

Burger's intake will likely be very similar to its N55 intake for the E9x. It won't be a closed system. Less materials = Less cost.

AFE's system is a closed box, which entails more work getting a box to fit in the space of the OEM filter box, more Raw materials, more shipping costs, ect.

Also name recognition is a factor here, AFE is very well known in the performance industry, not just BMW. BMS makes fantastic products, but is only well known in BMW Tuner circles/forums.

I think you've got the numbers flipped around. Otherwise it would show a substantial loss for the AFE

no it is correct. There are some people that dyno'd AFE intake and loss power when compared to the stock airbox. That is why I haven't purchased one.

Wow. That's useful info, thanks.

Y would anyone buy this if there's a loss in power? U sure about this?
